Pakistani Medical Students Studying in Afghanistan while speaking at a news conference in Islamabad have Called for Fair and Lawful #PMDC Policy. Following is their statement:
“We, the representatives of Pakistani medical students studying in Afghanistan, express our deep concern over the recent policies of the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) affecting students enrolled in Afghan medical universities.
Thousands of Pakistani students began their medical education in Afghanistan under the rules and recognition that existed at the time of their admission. Many have now completed several years of study and made significant financial and personal sacrifices. We respectfully request PMDC to ensure that no policy is applied retrospectively in a manner that unfairly harms students who enrolled in good faith. We also urge PMDC to comply with the decisions of the competent courts and to adopt a fair, transparent, and student-centered approach. The Peshawar High Court has previously ruled against retrospective application of a PMDC notification affecting Afghan medical graduates.
Our demands are:
- Protection of the academic future of Pakistani students studying in Afghanistan.
- Fair implementation of PMDC regulations without retrospective disadvantage.
- A transparent consultation process with student representatives and relevant stakeholders.
- A practical pathway for eligible graduates to complete registration in accordance with the law.
We remain committed to resolving this matter peacefully through legal and constitutional means while safeguarding the future of thousands of Pakistani medical students.”
Thousands of FMGs are facing uncertainty due to retrospective policy changes. We respectfully urge Amnesty International and human rights institutions worldwide to examine this issue and advocate for justice and equal treatment.#resignPsychoRizwanTajPMDC@UNHumanRights@CMShehbaz
