My first rotation in residency was in a Surgical ICU. There was a nice 85 y/o male who was found to have a nodule on CXR and then had a biopsy done. The biopsy was benign, but there was a series of postop complications. Sadly, this gentleman died 30 days after the biopsy. This was a lesson I always carry with me.
