If only buying the books was enough. Taking it one step at a time. Any #chesspunks with first-hand experience with the step method, let me know what has worked best for you. Thanks,
@NoelStuder Exactly, I’ve learned so much chess knowledge in past couple years but my skills practice is 95% playing fast online games (complete misapplication of knowledge gains). Like a golfer who loves to play, but doesn’t improve by hitting the range often.
Going on a 72hr online chess detox to prepare for weekend tournament. Will report back to the twitterverse on this new strategy. Gonna be jittery 😬 next few days. OTB only 💪 #chesspunks
Last night my daughter snuck down to play chess. It’s a joy to watch her beautiful eyes fire around the board recognizing patterns, evaluating moves. What a joy to see her quiet excitement burst inside when she realizes checkmate on her Dad! Great game, play for fun! #chesspunks
@ChessJackdaw @WFrostick I spent 1.5yrs doing step 1 and 2; however, I also played 50 OTB games, bought and “skimmed” 50 chess books, had 20 formal lessons, and played 10,000 meaningless blitz/rapid games. So, could have quicker if didn’t wander down the rabbit hole. At this pace, GM by 2075! Good luck!
The Steps Method journey continues. Finally finished every workbook from Step 2 and now moving into Step 3! Going to try hard to be consistent with it and be more intentional with any online chess played. #chesspunks
@NickVasquezMD I’m with you! I Online chess could be beneficial if used as a tool for chess improvement; however, I just seem incapable of using it that way. Working through a chess book OTB and steps method is my path forward!
@SusanPolgar 1000% agree…I’d heard NOT to let my 7yr old win a game. WORST ADVICE!!!! Make it fun!!!! Now, my kids love capturing material, and “finding” a discovered attack or checkmate!
Yesterday’s tourney was a gut-punch. Lowlight was hanging my Q in Rd. 4 and knew it. Back at it today, playing, reviewing games, books. Prob not original, but OTB chess is an anvil which either forges optimistic perseverance in an individual, or just plain hammers them to a pulp.
