Chairman, NDDB, Dr @ShahMeenesh, met Mr Brian Lindsay, Director, @DSF_Dairy, along with senior NDDB officials to discuss the progress of the DSF Stage 1 pilot in India. With NDDB’s support, the pilot is being implemented in the milksheds of @shreeja_mmpcl and NDDB-managed Jharkhand Milk Federation (@medha_coop) to encourage emerging dairy economies to adopt sustainability frameworks and highlight dairying’s role in strengthening the rural economy.
During the meeting, Dr Shah Reiterated NDDB’s support in DSF pilot and expressed confidence in its potential to provide valuable insights into dairy-led rural development and sustainability. He also outlined NDDB’s key initiatives aimed at improving farmers’ income and fostering sustainability in the sector. Mr Lindsay, in turn, shared insights from his visits to Shreeja MPO, JMF, and Banas Dairy (@banasdairy1969), commending NDDB’s role in transforming the rural economy by enhancing small dairy farmers' livelihood through the cooperative framework.

A DSF-NDDB side event on Stage 1 Pilot took place as part of the @FIL_IDF ’s first Regional Dairy Conference Asia Pacific 2024. The session was chaired by Mr Brian Lindsay, Director, @DSF_Dairy in the presence of distinguished panellists including Dr @ShahMeenesh, Chairman, NDDB & Governor on Board of DSF & Board Member, IDF, Shri Sudhir Kumar Singh, MD, Jharkhand Milk Federation and Shri Thimappa Sura, Chief Executive, Shreeja Mahila Milk Producer Company Ltd (@shreeja_mmpcl)
Mr Lindsay shared that DSF promotes global collaboration in dairy sustainability, focusing on monitoring and advancing sector-wide progress. Their 'Stage 1 approach' prioritises learning from ongoing projects and implementing sustainability frameworks in milksheds. They have partnered with NDDB for a pilot in Jharkhand Milk Federation and Shreeja MMPCL. He further explained that DSF has defined 11 sustainability criteria to monitor and report progress in the global dairy sector.
Chairman, NDDB highlighted the significant role of dairying in transforming rural livelihoods and ensuring food security for lacto-vegetarian populations. The Indian dairy sector focuses on sustainability, enhancing productivity through initiatives like scientific breeding, nutrition improvements and renewable energy use. NDDB & DSF are piloting sustainability initiatives in JMF & Shreeja milksheds for impactful outcomes and mutual learning.
Shri Singh brought to the fore efforts from balanced cattle feed to biogas plants managed by women farmers, enhance rural economies, promote renewable energy, and ensure environmental sustainability. He also added that JMF's sustainability efforts align with DSF principles will preserve natural resources and support rural livelihoods.
Shri Sura also shared that Shreeja MMPCL focuses on initiatives like Green Fodder Production to enhance milk production efficiency and empower women. The collaboration with DSF will chart the path on similar lines leading to success.

Mr Brian Lindsay, Director, @DSF_Dairy visited the NDDB-managed Jharkhand State Cooperative Milk Producers’ Federation Ltd. (@medha_coop) in Ranchi, Jharkhand along with NDDB officials Dr TC Gupta, Ms Chaitali Chatterjee, Ms Shelly Topno (@TopnoShelly) and Dr Bhupendra Phondba (@bhupend67177697).
During the visit, Mr Lindsay interacted with Shri Sudhir Kumar Singh, MD, Shri Jaidev Biswas, Dy MD, as well as team members and dairy farmers.
The purpose of the visit was to gain insights into various initiatives for sustainable dairying, such as manure value chain, solar power, circular bio-economy through empty pea pod silage, IVF-ET and village-based milk procurement systems. Mr Lindsay recognised the contribution of JMF in women empowerment and strengthening rural livelihoods.
Mr Lindsay was impressed by the cooperative model's power, regular & transparent milk payment system, employment opportunities created by dairying and how NDDB’s support enabled JMF to demonstrate leadership in socio-economic development.
A huge thank you to Mr Thimmappa @shreeja_mmpcl staff,farmers & @NDDB_Coop for a wonderful day of education in a most welcoming and positive environment. To meet with the Shreeja professional women dairy farmers was an absolute highlight!
