@pkafka@ScottNover Is it significantly different than, say, Amazon/MGM? I’m not familiar enough with the business lines to draw distinctions, but that struck me as the correct analogy and it was not challenged.
Event markets are a promising area of our future economy, and that is why we are responding today to the @CFTC’s notice of proposed rulemaking. We fully support the CFTC’s mission to uphold the integrity of the US derivatives market and believe they can provide a robust regulatory framework for this emerging class of contracts. However, this proposal, if adopted, will ban many prediction contracts without good reason. 1/5
@mwturetzky@Rachael_IP And we haven't even gotten into the efficiencies realized by the legal profession by the advent of things like TAR, and the forthcoming changes from AI-driven practice. Those dollars can, and should, get clients more today than what they did twenty years ago.
@fedjudges Am I alone in thinking the use of all caps for headings feels like screaming at the audience? I think the original headings are great, though.
@OrinKerr That post seemed to exhibit particularly poor judgment. It seems consistent to think this was the right call but that some are too quick to silence heterodox views.
One’s views on whether to “cancel” seems to turn on how you conceptualize violent speech.
@nic_carter@blass_shawn@GovRonDeSantis Do you think those limits are met here? American speech laws are uniquely content neutral unless there is a concrete plan to harm others. Free speech advocates have long lauded that neutrality and have defended the rights of the most abhorrent speakers.
@OrinKerr Did you have a moment where you began to appreciate that you could do well / were good at it?
The first year can be a roller coaster because you may do "worse" than you expected in a class but ultimately balance it all out in a later semester.
@yugacohler @linakhanFTC No easy task. Epic Games lost a trial, on the merits, on a number of theories around the App Store. I suspect any efforts on that front would come in the form of rulemaking rather than enforcement.
@gagesalicki @jchervinsky It seems like the confusion is being exacerbated by the unhelpful conflation of equity and investment contracts by a handful of commentators. It's been great to see many people step in to clarify why those ideas aren’t quite analogous.
