Got lucky on the $MRNA pop yesterday, after being long from my top N SP trend following system got me in. System moved stop up to 137.5 this morning, and stopped out with that profit today
My June mistake
Did something I knew I should not do - deployed a system I knew would be long memory/AI stocks right when they were extended. & Seeing other accounts doing well with Top N Rotational systems during the memory blow off - FOMO - top ticked it. Oops
Adjustment made
Now long this set
$DELL $HPE $PANW $CRWD $NTAP $FTNT $VLO $HUM $CNC $MPC
Otherwise I'd still be sitting through names in that memory drawdown ... even though they may or may not be coming back now 🤷♂️
Ended up modifying my top N rotational SP system to be more of a trend-following system today
Been thinking it for awhile, and in back of my head kind of knew that it would be difficult for me to keep trading it without stops - better for me long term - execution first!
Found one of my systems long $ATAI this week - huge position because of the low vol
But it's got a pending M&A deal. I don't want these in my trade-able universe. I had a static list of "tickers to exclude" in my code, that I would update manually
Made filtering adjustment
Even though I'm strategy & rules first in my larger accounts, I still find myself with desire for manual/discretionary trading. So I opened another small margin account I can be aggressive with.
Small size but it will allow for my outlet
Long $EWY since breakout last week
$SNDK $MU $AMAT $FLEX added stops that are very close to knocking out existing positions based on new rules - the other positions still have a lot more breathing room
That was a bad overlook with AI assisted coding.
The other one I had about month or two go was realizing that one system I developed had an egregious amount of forward looking regime bias in the backtest results, causing it to massively overstate the performance of a system
Just found out a few of my new systems had not been executing on as many tickers as they should have, because a "current volume" filter during the stock universe scan that runs pre-market never passed on most stocks before market open. Big oops! Fixed & onward!
