Kyle Kulinski: “We are living through a new Nazi moment. Netanyahu and Israel, they’re like a new Nazi state. Trump is like a new Nazi as well. All of the basic standards of decency and decorum and civility, it’s all out the window. Any concern about international law or human rights or justice, it’s all gone. What you’re seeing now is the fascists have all the power. The fascists and the billionaires and the warmongers that have all the power and are calling all the shots and the end result is the absolute destruction of the global order”
This Supreme Court handed Donald Trump a blank check to dismantle our democracy, and he is cashing it.
In the Slaughter decision, the Court gutted a critical check on presidential power and cleared the way for presidents to fire officials who oversee independent agencies. Today, Trump used that power to purge the entire bipartisan Election Assistance Commission.
The Court opened the door, and now the agency meant to safeguard our elections is Trump's to control, just months before the midterms.
Reforming the Supreme Court isn't radical anymore. It's self-defense for our democracy.
Trump ousted all three members of the U.S. Election Assistance Commission, a bipartisan agency that works with state officials to ensure free and fair elections.
Nice try, Mr. President.
We won't let you sabotage the midterm elections. This is a democracy, not a dictatorship.
Mitch McConnell is actually the best Metaphor for, and representation of, America and our political system. He spent almost a century making the world a better place for only himself and his friends, married an immigrant while working tirelessly against other immigrants, manipulated the system to increase his power only to be usurped & made impotent by someone even more unethical, unscrupulous and power hungry. Then when the system is finally done with him, they keep his dead body on life support just to use him for one more power move until finally allowing him sweet sweet death while his wife flees the country and his children go into hiding. And when it's all said and done, he'll be best remembered for a meme that made him into a turtle. America.
Mitch McConnell remaining technically alive for an extra three weeks because of a manipulative procedural maneuver is exactly how he would have wanted to go out.
not to get political, but America is real pretty and has a lot of nice folks making cool things, and i think if we had a president who wasn’t actively trying to murder us, we could have a pretty good time
As America marks 250 years, may we recommit to building a diverse democracy, an economy that works for the many and not just the few, and a future where every generation has the opportunity to live a dignified life.
Happy 4th of July!
For the millionth time there is no “fracture” over Israel and Iran among Democrats. Among Dem voters support for economic and military aid to Israel is at 20% (74% oppose) and support for war on Iran is 6%. The only fracture is between Dem voters and AIPAC-funded party leadership
AOC: “They have money, but we’ve got people. Our pitch needs to be focused on making the lives of everyday people better because they’re sure as hell gonna be making the lives of billionaires better. Our job is to make the lives of single mothers and working families and students trying to waitress through school and mechanics trying to keep the business afloat”
Last year, I explained that the Supreme Court was likely to permit Trump to fire the heads of "independent" federal agencies, but prevent too much direct presidential control over the Federal Reserve (which is the most powerful, quite secret and quasi-privatized institution you probably know very little about but which controls a lot of stuff that matters for you). Today, they've basically done that.
The reason is that central banks (especially if designed like the Fed to permit giant extraction of wealth from most of society to the richest people through opaque means) are so vital to protecting global capital, and they very much don't want to risk even the small risk of democratic political control over that institution. A lot of legal analysts didn't understand the underlying dynamics here and don't appreciate how much those dynamics, rather than legal reasoning, determine outcomes in the most important cases. The exception for the Fed is about ensuring the durability of one of global capital's most important institutions from any even tiny future glimmer of more responsiveness to populist whims.
When it comes to democratic socialism, it’s always “How are you going to pay for it?” How are you going to pay for universal healthcare or free childcare? The answer is simple: with tax dollars. Rather than directing tax dollars toward useless wars and pet projects, that money will be applied to what Americans actually need. That isn’t radical. It’s the purpose of government.
The reason why centrist Dems are pushing so hard again DSA candidates is that they are afraid to lose all that lobby money they have been receiving for decades.
Hasan Piker: “Israel is an unbelievably important issue because it’s the moral crisis of our generation. It’s a genocide and we watched it unfold and we have a moral culpability here because we’re American taxpayers and America aided and abetted in Israel’s genocide. However, beyond that for the average American, Israel is profoundly important because it’s a fantastic litmus test to see if your representative will represent your interests or the interests of foreign lobbies or other corporate lobbies”
