I was invited to give an MLK speech today and a small number of members of the group hosting me wrote and then leaked emails opposing my giving this speech, as it dishonored Dr. King for me to do so. They called me a "discredited activist" "unworthy of such association with King"
The universe wants to make sure you get out to vote on Tuesday, June 23 🗳️ but if you’re not in Maryland…well...the universe wants you to do something about that too 👀🏘️
Laila Edwards has become the highest-drafted Black woman in PWHL history after the expansion team PWHL San Jose selected her with the No. 4 overall pick. The Wisconsin standout helped lead her team to an NCAA championship and now continues to break barriers at the professional level. Laila's achievement shows young Black athletes that there is no limit to what they can accomplish! 🏒

In 2016, at age 89, Opal Lee—the "Grandmother of Juneteenth"—made a symbolic walk from Fort Worth to Washington, DC, to advocate for federal recognition of #Juneteenth. Later this year, she will celebrate her 100th birthday. More about her life and legacy: https://t.co/bCN4syZnBs
#OnThisDay in 1865, General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, TX to read Order No. 3, which affirmed the end of slavery in the states of the former Confederacy. This momentous occasion became known as #Juneteenth, a combination of “June” & “19th." More: https://t.co/bitoMm27sm
Barack: You told me all those years ago that you couldn’t promise me the world, but you could promise me an interesting life. Of course, you outdid yourself and managed to give me both.
Eight years in the crucible, and not once did you melt from the heat. Not once did you let it harden you. Instead, you used it to reveal your truest essence: your stubborn optimism and unflinching courage, your dazzling brilliance and unpretentious decency, your ferocious work ethic and absolutely unshakable moral fiber.
More than 40 years ago, I arrived in Chicago in search of an idea. I was a young man looking for purpose, who believed deeply in America, was inspired by the Civil Rights Movement, and wanted to be a part of something larger. The America I believed in was one where everyone has opportunity, everyone is seen, everyone belongs—because that was an America that had a place for me, too.
Civics for the People with the AUC Consortium was lively to say the least.
In my crash course on civics we get active. You have to make decisions. You spend money. You elected a mayor. By the time it’s done you’ve been on a whirlwind, but you walk out with a deeper understanding of the process.
Got more to show you from Atlanta coming.

We can’t wait to welcome you to the Obama Presidential Center. Tune in now to hear our remarks along with performances by artists and changemakers from around the world who will join us here on the South Side of Chicago. https://t.co/WvFn8i3IKM
Barack and I never did anything alone. Through two national campaigns, eight years in the White House, and in all the years since, we had an incredible team backing us up and pushing us forward.
It was such a joy to be back together with so many of the alumni who’ve supported us over the years. We’ll forever be grateful for their work, and our country is better off thanks to their service. We love you. 💗
It means so much to Barack and me to open up the Obama Presidential Center on the South Side of Chicago. This is where I grew up, where Barack got his start, and where we raised our girls. So having a place where kids from our community can see themselves, connect with each other, and channel their hope—there’s nothing more powerful than that.
To everyone who helped bring the Obama Presidential Center to life, thank you. Michelle and I are so grateful for all your dedication and hard work over the years.
I got a little teary-eyed tonight thinking about my mother-in-law, Marian Robinson.
