Itβs finally Hill Day! ποΈ
Over 130 respiratory therapists are in Washington DC today to lobby for critical issues that affect respiratory care. #aarclobby#breathingmatters

@Mc94Molly We also need to look at digital equity, to allow these students the same access. Our community college system is looking to partner with public libraries to give further access to digital technology to our more rural students.
#edu6323 Just another example of using tech for good. My dad has been in ICU since last Friday. He just came off the ventilator yesterday and has some confusion which is normal after being this sick. He has an amazing connection with his dog Jac. Facetime = familiarty= healing
@SenatorCollins ] as a constituent and Respiratory Therapist, please co-sponsor the Better Respiration through Expanding Access to Tele-Health Act (BREATHE ACT) when introduced in the House. Introduce a companion bill in the Senate. #breathingmatters#aarclobby
@ManyDerrick In fact, in his first week in his new school he informed the principal that this school was much less technologically advanced than his previous school π So they invited him to give his thoughts on bringing in Chromebooks to the high school.
@ManyDerrick I think Robotics is very regional. We left a school district in Maine several years ago that had/has robotics in high school. My son was disappointed that his new school district in NH did not have this option.
@EPerry72351815 Digital equity is a challenge in rural Maine. Not only do we have students without the financial means for digital access, we also have many areas still without physical access...no cell service either :-O
Specifically, improving digital literacy and advancing digital equity. Being a community college we often serve underprivileged students whose digital literacy and access is quite limited. There is a push at our system level to reach these students and improve access.
#edu6323 Yesterday I sat in a meeting with other faculty and staff members at my college as we listened to our Maine Community College System's new president. It struck me that much of what he spoke of was what I had just read about in the NMC Horizon report.
@BrianK34074880 @Matthew_Lucas_@Lenworth_22 What a great question, Brian. I think it can be difficult to find that line between offering too much and allowing the student to take responsibility for their own education. I tend to be a nurturer, so I am often on the end of offering too much.
@ManyDerrick@bwatwood @BrianK34074880 PLNs allow us to open our circle of information and circle of influence. Being able to contact people in other states/countries/continents allows me, as a respiratory therapist, to improve patient care. Even in rural Maine.
I also know that for myself, in higher ed, I have the time and opportunity to reach many of my students. My program max is only 14. I spend 2 years with them teaching the majority of their classes. I know it is not the same for those of you with large classes.
#edu6323 I really enjoyed Wesch's video. A great example of how we can reach students who others may have given up on. We all have a story, sometimes it takes a little more effort to get to the story.
Today is #KickButtsDay. Take some time today to learn facts about the harms of smoking.

Last week Miller talked about gamification to help motivate students. When registering for a conference today they have a Simulation Lab Escape Room session where we will learn how to use our Sim lab as an escape room to moviate learners! #EDU6323
#edu6323 Polling got me thinking this week, but I have more to say than a tweet will allow :) Ill elaborate on the discussion boards. For low confidence, or anxious, or introverted students polling can be an excellent tool.
@Matthew_Lucas_ I like to start each of my classes with some review questions from the previous. Polling will be a fun way to do this. I just signed up at Kahoot and will give it a shot. We'll see how the students like it come Monday morning when they are back from vacation :)
@MasiaNeu @LaurenC42893676 I think polling might also allow those who are less confident to gain confidence in their correct answers. Perhaps enough to raise a hand...eventually
