Then I received a DM from Daniel Ek out of the blue to work on a company together, just as Spotify was getting ready to IPO and my previous startup was winding down.

This is the backstory of how @eldsjal convinced me to change my mind on healthcare and start Neko together.

20 years ago, I was here in New York, pitching a small startup from Europe.

This week, I'm back here, once again in pitch mode, talking to friends old and new about democratizing preventive health with @Neko.

I've always been obsessed with building the most amazing product possible. And with Neko, the end goal is to truly change consumer behaviour. We want as many people as possible to have access to quality preventive healthcare - not for the 1%, but for the 99%.

Today I'm excited to share an update on @Neko's US expansion.

This launch is probably the most consequential milestone in our company's mission to make preventive healthcare accessible at population scale.

Modern medicine is extraordinary at fixing you once something has gone wrong. It is almost entirely uninterested in looking before that happens.

We've spent the past 8 years building an alternative and we are finally ready to bring it to the US for the first time.

Neko NYC opens on 24 September at 300 Lafayette Street in SoHo. A Neko Health Scan is $499.

Americans are already spending thousands of dollars to access yearly labs, on-demand scans, or concierge medicine. At Neko, there are no third-party imaging centres, no send-out labs, nobody in the middle taking a cut. We built a completely new healthcare experience ourselves to make it both better and cheaper for you.

If you're not familiar with our concept, in one hour you get a full skin check, body composition, EKG, 4-point blood pressure analysis, macro and micro vascular assessment, and comprehensive labs with results before you leave. Then a clinician sits down with you and takes you through every finding, in person, before you leave the building.

For about 1.2% of scans we have a direct life-saving intervention.

There are already 25,000 New Yorkers in line for a scan. That could mean saving 300 lives in NYC alone.

Today we're announcing that @Neko has raised a $700M Series C.

@eldsjal and I started the company with the belief that the solution to the trickiest problems in healthcare won't come from scaling the existing system.

Medicine has spent centuries getting good at treating disease. The next medical frontier will be understanding health and making sure things are not going wrong in the first place.

To proactively find problems you need to find when things start to change, and to do we need a completely new approach to tracking health over time. You cannot solve this by just adding more software to the existing system.

Diagnostic technology needs to become faster, cheaper and more accurate. Data needs to be understood continuously. Doctors need better tools and more time with each person.

That's why at Neko, we've rebuilt the entire stack: medical devices, sensors, AI, software, clinical protocols and clinics run by our own staff.

Our first product, the Neko Health Scan, maps millions of health data points and gives members their results in a single 60-minute visit. More than 100,000 people have now experienced it.

This new funding will help us advance the quality and affordability of preventive care by orders of magnitude.

We are expanding into the US, starting in New York City, and taking on some of the hardest problems in medicine: earlier detection, deeply personalized care, better health outcomes and new insights into the drivers of chronic disease.

Our goal is to make healthcare proactive by default. This funding will help get us there faster.

The backstory here is: I had been building Neko for about 4 years at this point. During this period I had met ZERO investors, angels etc. No conferences, no media, no nothing. All day every day just grinding to make our first set of diagnostic products in stealth.

So as we were considering raising our first external round @eldsjal connected me with @HarryStebbings to get a sense of what investors were looking for at the time. I was confident that we had an amazing story and that I would blow him away.

Harry being Harry after about 15 minutes on the phone said "You're a humble and nice Swede, you're terrible at pitching! You have no chance of raising money, just being honest here".

I didn't give up and jumped on a plane to London to brainstorm how to explain what we are doing to another human being in 30 seconds instead of 30 minutes. He wore his famous shorts, put his phone on airplane mode, and we spent about 2 hours hashing out the story in more simple terms.

Once we met the first investor we were ready with a decent story for the company and the round. We got a term-sheet before the official round had even started.

Even though Harry didn't invest himself, he's always been there for us just as if he was an investor. So thanks for all the truthful feedback and help along the way Harry!

We've raised a $700M Series C, led by @lightspeedvp and co-led by O.G. Venture Partners.

Since 2023, more than 350,000 people have signed up for a Neko Health Scan, and 100,000 people have experienced one.

Today, our approach to redefining how people understand and act on their health is already working: for returning members, our data shows that 5 out of 7 of their key health markers showed statistically significant improvement between scans.

This funding will scale our research into the hidden causes of disease and the development of proprietary technology to detect it before it has time to develop. It will also fund our continued expansion, including to the US, where our first clinic is set to open in New York this year.

This round comes weeks after our biggest update yet to the Neko Health Scan, with body composition measures and clinician review of wearable data now included in all scans across our clinics in the UK and Sweden.

Last week we released over 10,000 fresh scan slots to the folks on @neko's waitlist! To put this into perspective, it took us 12 months to deliver the first 3,000 scans.

Translating that into impact, from this batch we can expect* to:
• Find 120 life-threatening conditions and make sure appropriate care is received
• Identify 500 people with major undiagnosed conditions
• Help 10,000 members maintain and even improve their health

It’s hard for me to believe there are now over 700 people working at @neko. For over a year we were less than 10 people, and it feels like that was just yesterday!

Couldn’t think of a better way to wrap my head around it than getting everyone into a room together. So last week, we brought the whole global team to Stockholm. To -10°C and to mountains of snow. We had people coming from all over, New York and LA to Berlin and Manchester, from nurses and doctors to architects and AI engineers.

2026 will be our most important year yet!
