An unbelievable failure in CNN’s research. ⬇️ It took me 2 seconds to find that the Lemkin family filed a complaint against the Lemkin Institute. Lander has repeatedly invoked the institute’s name. CNN couldn’t figure this out to rebut Lander’s claims? Googling is too hard?

In a recent interview with @CNN, New York congressional candidate Brad Lander cited Raphael Lemkin and the Lemkin Institute for Genocide Prevention (LIGP) to argue that Israel's actions in Gaza constitute a "genocide."

Lander told CNN's Dana Bash that Jews are now "grappling with what it means in some ways to be a perpetrator."

But Lemkin's closest living relative takes issue with how Lander has weaponized his family member's legacy.

"Invoking the Lemkin Institute as though it speaks with special authority on Raphael Lemkin’s legacy is deeply misleading. The Institute has no affiliation with Raphael Lemkin or his family, and my family has repeatedly and publicly objected to its use of his name," Joseph Lemkin told CAMERA's @D_Grunblatt.

To counter Lander’s suggestion that the LIGP position represents a consensus, Lemkin pointed to a letter 112 Holocaust and genocide scholars signed who also explicitly rejected labeling the war in Gaza a genocide.

Lemkin noted that his relative was an ardent Zionist who understood the existential vulnerability of the Jewish people. He said Raphael Lemkin also “understood that if the term were untethered from its legal meaning and transformed into a political slogan, it would ultimately lose its force. I believe that is precisely what is happening here.”

The fact that the Nazis forced members of the Jewish people to turn against their own was not only physically brutal, but also a form of psychological warfare. Erasing this element dilutes the terror of the Nazi regime.

But as @D_grunblatt observes, Bash's definition is absurd.

"The U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum notes that beating and punishing subordinate prisoners was a required duty for kapos, with many committing murders to meet SS expectations, a brutal reality Nobel Laureate Elie Wiesel documented in his memoir Night," Grunblatt writes in a recent analysis.

Bash is supposed to be "CNN’s premier voice on American Jewry and antisemitism." But instead of confronting misinformation about the Holocaust and Israel, she's aiding in "amplifying harmful revisionism under the banner of legacy journalism."

Former Biden national security adviser Jake Sullivan told the New Yorker he can’t sleep because he’s consumed with thoughts about what the U.S. could have done differently to restrain Israel’s response to the Oct. 7, 2023 Hamas terror attack.

Just as a casual reminder that @bartov_omer is *not* a "genocide scholar." He's a historian who has done work on the Holocaust.

Being a genocide scholar is more than being a historian and also requires understanding the fundamental principles of the crime of genocide. Something that Bartov has *never* been able to articulate.

In his "analysis" of genocide he fails to apply the requirements for the crime of genocide, he constantly makes assumptions, he does not use the tests designed to infer intent, he does not demonstrate a fundamental understanding of how we assess genocide.

It's because he isn't a genocide scholar. He's a historian.

Brown University professor @bartov_omer is an anti-Israel activist who has called Israel a nation “injected with poison,” accused it of “Jewish supremacism,” and blamed Hamas’ Oct. 7 massacre on Israeli policy.

Yet major media outlets give him cover by platforming him as an "impartial expert" on genocide—most recently in a @nytimes’ July 21 op-ed.

Anti-Israel ideologues like Glenn Greenwald then weaponize Bartov's background, using his credentials to validate the "genocide" narrative.

Outlets like the Times must stop playing along. Laundering activist rhetoric as objective expertise does a massive disservice to readers.

ICYMI, Bash defined kapos as Jews just "keeping the peace" in Nazi camps on-air. Yet CNN ignoring my multiple requests for a correction was almost worse. At a time when Holocaust literacy is plummeting, this apathy toward historical accuracy is dangerous.

People do realize that if Israel stops taking U.S. aid, the U.S. will have less influence over Israel, not more?

Providing aid is literally the U.S.’s leverage over Israel. This has played out constantly over the course of the war, from Biden tempering Israel’s invasion of Rafah, to Trump pressing to end the war by negotiating the hostage deal, to the recent U.S. backed Lebanon-Israel deal.

I’m not really sure why the U.S. considers itself a moral beacon on wars, considering its conduct in recent ones. Nonetheless, many Americans who are calling for the U.S. to exert more influence on Israel, are simultaneously calling for embargoes which would, essentially, mean giving up their influence entirely.

They must realize that will hardly leave Israel defenseless, but will make Israel less dependent on America?

Maybe it’s not about “helping Palestinians” as they claim. Maybe they just want to wash their hands of a complicated situation to feel morally pure.

Otherwise, it really makes no sense.

Mainstream media continues to portray Dr. Hussam Abu Safiyah as an innocent pediatrician, when in reality, he directed Kamal Adwan Hospital when it was being used for Hamas operations.

Before his arrest, Abu Safiya directed Kamal Adwan Hospital, a facility repeatedly tied to Hamas's military operations. During a raid on his hospital, IDF forces discovered a handgun and ammunition hidden directly inside NICU incubators.

Open-source evidence shows Abu Safiya alongside senior Hamas figures in military uniform, and his own Facebook page featured posts celebrating the October 7 attacks.
