Fox is catching a lot of grief & in hindsight obv he’d pull this back out. But try to put yourself in his shoes. You know ~12 secs left. You *think* you have an easy layup. You make it yes you leave NY time, but worst case scenario is OT being up 3. Dribble around? Ok, you get fouled with 8/9 secs left & have 2 massive pressure FT’s to go up 2 or 3. Genuinely I think most coaches would probably prefer a 100% layup in that situation over running a few more secs before FT’s (also you can always get trapped or backtapped & not even get the FT’s). Of course, he underestimated how close OG was & getting blocked there was catastrophic. Try to have some empathy tho for fact that game isn’t played in slomo. You make a million split second decisions like this in a game. Fox made wrong one here. He’ll bounce back.
We're going to see plenty of media members and fans blaming De’Aaron Fox for the Game 4 loss and it's going to get ugly.
I won’t be one of them.
Yes, the late turnover was costly. No, it wasn’t the reason the Spurs lost a game they once led by 29 points.
This loss belongs to the coaches. The players. The execution. The inexplicably dense decisions. The inability to close out possessions and manage critical moments throughout the second half.
NBA and Finals games are rarely lost on a single play. This one certainly wasn’t.
Be angry. Point fingers. Cope however you need to.
But turning Fox into the scapegoat and accusing him of being part of a betting scandal won’t help the Spurs win Game 5 on Saturday.

🇺🇸I cannot believe what just happened! Unreal! Extremely tough loss. Now time to lick wounds and try again. No alternatives. 😓
🇦🇷No puedo creer el partido que perdimos! Extremadamente doloroso! Ahora a lamerse las heridas y volver a intentarlo. No queda otra. 😓
Woulda shoulda but this is one time where you can make the argument that the Spurs should be up 3-1. The fact that Fox didn't pull the ball out with under 10 secs is going to haunt the Spurs. They should've had a 3pt lead with under 5 secs left. Wow.
Jose Alvarado had no answer for Victor Wembanyama on this possession.
The only thing left to do was grab a leg and send him stumbling to the floor.
After review, it was ruled a common foul.
Spurs fans will probably have a few questions about that one. 🤨
