Today is the 55th Anniversary of Bank Nationalisation in India.

This historic decision by the Indira Gandhi government, supported by the CPI, resulted in exponential growth of trustworthy banks in the country.

State-led banking operations led to phenomenal increase in the number of branches and services offered. PSBs have shaped the development trajectory of the nation through priority sector lending and have proved to be a bulwark against any threat to our economic integrity.

As we #HailBankNationalisation today, we must also remain cautious of attempts at privatisation and diversion of public assets to select cronies.Our efforts to make PSBs vehicles of growth for the common people must continue.

My congratulations to all hardworking bank employees and unions that safeguard their interests on this historic day.
