While Toronto Police balk at the prospect of an $18 million budget increase — which is far from "defunding," despite their rhetoric — I'm celebrating the prospect of a budget where funding for community programs might see their first increases in a decade. https://t.co/pz9rxxEp8V
Hello @311Toronto can you tell me who is responsible for this closure at Danforth and Carlaw? There is no advanced signage, no merge signs, no single file signs - cyclists just forced into traffic in an intersection. Is this considered a "safe" closure?

Today is devastating. Once we opened our doors, we were flooded with people who spent the night outdoors. We're checking for injuries and giving out warm clothes and blankets, and are fully aware that warming centres are already full and it's going to feel like -19°C tonight.
This unsafe condition has to stop. A private company is using a public roadway as their personal loading dock, endangering the lives of cyclists and all road users. They do it every day and have been for years.
Exactly this! @MercedesBenzCDN has the space on their property to unload trucks but instead uses it to park extra cars so they can make more money. They are choosing to endanger lives for a bit more profit.
🧵 In the absence of adequate shelter, St. Stephen-in-the-Fields' @MaggieHelwig has been supporting #encampment residents in Kensington. However, today we were told by @cityoftoronto's Encampment Office that an application has been made to "replace" the encampment with a garden.
This story from @AhmarSKhan is over two months old. But the situation at 129 Peter St. is once again dire: today, over 80 people were sheltering on the sidewalk in search of support. @MarcMillerVM@JustinTrudeau: when will you take responsibility? https://t.co/anynrnS54l
$2 billion to keep the Bloor line running (500,000 riders per day) or $2 billion to rebuild the Gardiner East of Jarvis (5,000 drivers will save a few minutes during rush hour). Tough call. https://t.co/ylmhXTj0DY
A reminder that @marksaunders_TO was paid $700 a day for a maximum of 245 days, or $171,500 a year, to produce absolutely nothing. The entire MO of @fordnation is to clean out the public purse to line the pockets of friends and insiders — this is definitive corruption.
I went on a walk of Ontario Place's West Island with @CBCHereandNow to visit the hundreds of trees that will be cut down to build the @ThermeGroup mega spa.
The interview is now online. Follow the link below to listen.

I took a ride out to West Island of Ontario Place to visit the trees to be cut down. 🧵
First this stunning willow. 3 stems with a combined diameter of 207cm! 20m wide crown and 15m tall.
We are deeply saddened by Claude Cormier’s passing. Claude made a profound, powerful & enduring contribution to Toronto & its waterfront. He has left a lasting legacy of vibrant public spaces that will be enjoyed for generations. He will be deeply missed. https://t.co/2S07TXSu1t
🧵Since it is becoming hard to keep track, here is a list of countries/municipalities that have seen catastrophic flooding in the first 11 days of September 2023:
- Greece
- Turkey
- Libya <--- *thousands feared dead*
- Brazil
- Hong Kong
- Shanghai
- Spain
- Las Vegas
#topoli#onpoli Please read & share @alexbozikovic’s seering verdict on @ThermeGroup scheme. This mess is not just a $1b momument to one man’s vanity but w/ serve as an enduring geyser of shame for anyone who participated in its approval. https://t.co/ABJGsqGXks
