I'd rather be fishing, or enjoying nature; but it's a duty to share the truth; especially when so many are trying to obscure and distort it for their own self interest.
The River Swale in Richmond. It rose about 15cm yesterday afternoon, after about 10mm of rain over the high dale the previous evening. Not enough for a proper flood or to colour the water much. Should be ideal for fishing as will just adda bit of flow and darkness. But not all floods are equal. We haven't had a significant flood for about a month. Often the first flood is dirty; with a lot of wash off. Look at all the scum on the water. This kind of dirty smelly water really puts fish off the feed. We had a small freshet about week ago and you might have expected that the clean things out. But that water came from lower down the dale so didn't clean out the upper catchment.
The River Swale above Richmond. It's beautifully clear right now after the long dry spell. Lovely to be out on the water, but the fishing is hard. In cold clear low water conditions a lot of the fish disappear under rocks. It needs a decent hatch of flies to tempt them out.
Decent number of flies in this backwater on the Swale. Mostly March Brown, but also Large Dark Olive and a couple of species of stonefly. Should bode well for opening day, if it wasn't for the poaching
Poaching on the River Swale in Richmond today. Reported to @Richmondangling and they said they'd contacted @NORTHPOLICENEP. But half an hour later he was still there. Hopefully they'll reply with what teh result was.
Has there ever been such a level of coordinated violence against a peaceful company?
I understand not wanting to buy a product, but this is extreme arson and destruction!

The Yellow Star of Bethlehem (Gagea lutea) is one of the special plants of Lower Swaledale. It grows along the banks of the Swale. The picture shows it in its typical habitat. Note the extensive debris from floods over the winter. It survives where other plants would be washed away. In fact it requires the openess that results and only occurs in this very specialised habitat. It's easy to overlook and also a shy flowerer. If you look carefully there are many other plants in the area, but only one flower.
Walked into @LidlGB in Richmond today with new trousers and walked out with these bleach stains. Manager claims they don't use bleach. They do sell it so maybe some spilt. Ether way their response was poor and they'll be hearing from me.
The River Swale is extremely clear right now. It's very beautiful like this and with good weather this weekend it should be a lovely time for fishing. Though clear water like this doesn't make for the easiest fishing.
Lovely day today in Richmond, on the river Swale. Very tempted to spend a while fishing. I'm sure I won't be the only one. Might be a bit too crowded. I usual prefer to fish during the week and in bad weather to avoid crowds.
First Upwing fly of the year. Trapped in the surface oil of an eddy. A Large dark Olive (Baetis rhodani). Always our earliest fly. It actually hatches through the winter, but in very small numbers. However, we should be getting good hatches soon. So far I've only seen a handful.
Only 10 days left when we can fish for these beautiful Swale Grayling. If we are really lucky we may even get some good weather, fly hatches and some dry fly action.
Very disappointed with this Orvis merino quarter-zip sweater 2.0. Old one on the left and new one on the right. I had the old one for years and years and it still looks like new. I only replaced it because it got a hole through an accident. The new one has never been washed and only used a few times yet is pilling and dull. Never had any pilling on the original. Is it even proper merino? Orvis advertise that it's "new and improved merino wool". They even claim it is "less prone to pilling". Like so many modern "improvements" it often seems like code for cheaper, poorer quality and artificial. I'm a big fan of Orvis and bought a lot of their clothes and fly fishing gear over many years, but this is disappointing. Any comment @TheOrvisCompany?
Anything the red Feds do, blue can undo, and vice versa.
But *transfer* power and money from the Feds to the states - both red and blue states will take it - and resist giving it back.
Make government compete daily across fifty models rather than every four years across two.
@teslaownersSV Nice to see him in a suit. His casual dress is the one thing I don't kill about @elonmusk . The West has lost discipline, respect and its work ethic. Dressing smartly was a reflection of our work effort. Dressing properly is a symbol and worth the effort.
Remembers saying the same in the comments section of the @dailytelegraph, but got called a Russian apologist and worse. I don't think they've learned even now. I learned: Not to subscribe to a consocialist newspaper.
To the armchair Napoleons within our media and political commentariat who hawkishly support the continuation of war rather than peace, it’s very easy to do so from behind a keyboard or sitting on a sofa. It’s very different for those fighting in a war or the casualties of war.
Jeffrey Sachs (American economist, public policy analyst, professor at Columbia University) gives Piers Morgan a lesson on geopolitics (and the US government’s nefarious role within this). He also highlights the backstory on Ukraine. And no, he’s not a “Putin enabler”.
"The US overthrew a president" of Ukraine in 2014, assisted by "right wing military". Worth thinking about when people are throwing blame around about the causes of the war in Ukraine.
