I actually got time today, and the Mayor of Dallas standing by markers of enslaved people without even a mention of the legacy of enslavement in Dallas, Texas pissed me off.
Here is a little thread about slavery in Dallas County 🧵
This is the work of @RBDallasHistory. I voted on these markers as part of the Dallas County Historical Commission. I actually sent that Jane Elkins marker back for revisions because it was missing vital information. @CityOfDallas has done little to address its legacy of slavery.
We have to uplift the late Dr. George Keaton’s name when discussing these markers/Martyrs Park. He is the sole reason why they are in that park. @CityOfDallas wanted it elsewhere. I was in the meeting. He also called me & cursed me out when I rejected the 1st Jane Elkins marker.
This morning the DCJI, @edgray1906, @RBDallasHistory, and @DallasParkRec unveiled historical markers in memory of victims of racial violence, Jane Elkins, Patrick Jennings, Samuel Smith, and Cato, at Martyrs Park.
