Every year my family goes to Mackinac Island. When there, we have to be very mindful of what we throw away because the island doesn't have a landfill and they charge you for the trash you create. This promotes recycling on the island. #apeswaste@franklinlorax
All of the items in my recycling bin are acceptable recyclable materials, which include cardboard, and tin cans. Reducing waste is something that we can do to reduce our carbon footprint! #apeswaste@franklinlorax
my family and i try our best to recycle as much as we can in order to avoid throwing out reusable items. this takes the most energy but is still a way to keep biodegradable & recyclable objects out of the landfills!!! @franklinlorax#apeswaste
When me and my family are done using our shoes, we bag them up and donate them to goodwill so they can be reused rather than thrown into a landfill. #apeswaste@franklinlorax
Staying home has caused ppl to drive less, reducing carbon emissions. However, more ppl are running/walking so they are releasing CO2 into the atmosphere themselves. But, this is better for the environment than driving as less greenhouse gases are emitted. #apesair@franklinlorax
When I drive, my exhaust spits out NOx and Hydrocarbons. When those two things mix with sunlight they create 03 which is a toxic atmospheric pollutant, that adds to smog and hurts your lungs. To reduce this, try to bike or walk during these warmer months. #apesair@franklinlorax
As you can see my fan is not on right now, when it’s not necessary to have my fan on, I keep it off. Keeping it on, especially when I’m not home, could be more wasteful then beneficial. This is a great way to save energy! #apesenergy@franklinlorax
Our sunroom has a lot of windows to let in sunlight. When it’s light outside, we can turn the lights off in our house to conserve electricity! #apesenergy@franklinlorax
With having to be at home because of corona, my little brother has used A LOT of energy by playing xbox. In order to reduce energy usage, we limit him to one hour a day and have now switched to playing outside which uses no energy! #apesenergy@franklinlorax
A few years ago I was able to visit the Hawaiian islands. During this land unit I learned that the Hawaiian islands were formed by a hot spot occurring in the middle of the Pacific Plate, and that each island is successively older toward the northwest. @franklinlorax#apesland
With our Saber State Forest Map project, we learned the importance of balancing wildlife, recreation, and sustainable forestry. A lot of thought goes into the organization of National Parks! #apesland@franklinlorax
This is a picture of my driveway. Before my house was built this land was part of a 5 acre farm, but as the population in Franklin expanded, that land got sold and was developed into the subdivision that I live in today. #apesland@franklinlorax
My sister and I have three turtles! Turtles are r-strategists and lay many eggs. R-strategists are usually smaller, less intelligent, and weaker organisms. But my turtles are very smart and strong !!:) @franklinlorax#apeseco
as we know, different biomes help produce different plants and organisms around the world. in the taiga biome, you can find christmas trees. so, when you see christmas trees this year, think about the biomes and how they help us! #apeseco@franklinlorax
Asian elephants , are also a great example of k stratigests, as they reproduce in low numbers. But with a high chance of the infants surviving to the reproductive stages in their lives.
Asian Elephants (like Dumbo) are known as keystone species! These species are very important to an ecosystem, in fact it couldn’t be sustained without these species. The Asian elephant opens up forest clearings and spreads seeds sustaining the ecosystem! @franklinlorax#apeseco
