Feliz Ramadan a todos meus irmãos e irmãos Muçulmanos.
Que seja um momento de reflexão para paz, união, e apoio as famílias especialmente as mais vulneráveis, neste mundo tão complexo em que vivemos.
CAPITALISM REQUIRES RACISM AND INEQUALITY
According to Dr Ruth Wilson Gilmore, capitalism requires inequality to function, and racism enshrines that inequality. Or, as the great Pan-Africanist Malcolm X put it, ‘You can’t have capitalism without racism.’
In this clip from a recent talk, Gilmore, a scholar at @GC_CUNY, who has been studying the relationship between racism, capitalism, and the US prison system for over 30 years, explained that capitalism needs to keep people divided into categories to continue exploiting them. If nothing separates us, one can imagine the dangers a united working class might pose to the capitalist system.
In addition to dividing modern workers, capitalists needed to deploy racism to develop the initial capital used to create their now global system. Thus came chattel slavery in the Americas, g*nocide across multiple continents, and colonial theft around the world.
In the words of assassinated Burkina Faso President Thomas Sankara (1949-87), ‘It is our blood that nourished the rise of capitalism, that made possible our present condition of dependence and consolidated our underdevelopment. But we cannot hide the truth anymore; it cannot be ignored. The figures cannot be simply haggled away. For every Black man who came to the plantations, five died or were crippled.’
Bem haja povo Namibiano
Women have a leading role to play in advancing progress on all of the areas outlined in the #PactForTheFuture, from addressing health threats to tackling climate change. Alongside my fellow co-chair of @AfricaEuropeFdn’s Women Leaders Network, Mary Robinson, we convened a powerful group of women leaders to explore governments’ commitments on these issues and discuss how greater partnership between Africa and Europe can help drive change.
I'm inspired by strong women leaders like Mama Antho. After fleeing conflict, she now leads a rice project in Angola, a country that protects her and offers a chance to rebuild her life with support from UNHCR and @WFP_SAfrica. #Refugees#WomenLeaders
History was made today when #Angola became the first @_AfricanUnion Member State to deposit Instruments of Ratification on Amendments to the Protocol on the Statute of the African Court of Justice and Human Rights, also known as the Malabo Protocol. To date,15countries have signed onto it.
It was exciting to launch the Partnership for Digital Access in Africa alongside @VP Kamala Harris, @WilliamsRuto and my fellow co-chairs of the initiative. In Africa, the digital divide has far-reaching consequences—particularly for women and girls—hampering access to essential services, education, and entrepreneurial opportunities. This critical initiative is a beacon of our commitment to inclusive growth for our people.
This is another excerpt from the interview that's worth a watch. The condescension from the journalist is off the chart, he's absolutely convinced of the supremacy of the Western system and he cannot fathom how the DRC president doesn't see it.
Like in this exchange:
- "The fact that [you partner with Russia and China] at the expense of democracies doesn't bother you? That these are authoritarian regimes?
- "What is democracy?"
- "There's a difference when you live in a democracy or in a dictatorship, I assure you there is a big difference."
- "What is democracy? I went to China in May last year and I met Chinese people who I spoke to privately who told me they were happy to live in their country and in the system they are in. Who am I to judge this system and say it is not democratic?"
- "You know very well these unfortunate folks are deported, arrested, tortured"
The view of China and the Global South in general in France is truly batshit insane...
