I will say it's incredibly impressive how to I engage with three posts and the X algorithm floods my timeline with posts just like that one.

Then, stop engaging with those posts and poof. Gone. It make daily browsing on X more enjoyable but it does force me to be even more aware of the disconnect between the real world and X.

What @MattWalshBlog is doing here is using the rhetorical shield of “just voicing the opinion he’s held for 15+ years” as way to drive doomerism

This isn’t calm skepticism or principled consistency. It’s a deliberate effort to demoralize and fracture support on the right for Trump's foreign policy decisions related to Iran

You can be anti-intervention without flooding the discourse with defeatist framing that implies it's going horribly and the fight is already lost...that’s not honest

And maybe Matt should try to engage with some of the arguments that weren't debated much before the conflict began. If it's reasonable to say that an eschatological death cult shouldn't have nukes/ICBMs, then what else are we going to do about it when diplomacy has failed miserably? And now that this has begun, what would Matt have us do?

Matt has made a career of being the epitome of a gruff, obstinate conservative and it's served him well on many social issues. But geopolitics is a bit more complicated than that...and Matt's reductionist, black and white sloganeering is just intellectually lazy and misleading

There are better ways for him to be expressing a position of principled skepticism, without throwing Trump and the entire right under the bus

He surrounded himself with too many neocons when he ran. Hes a great conservative who's closer to Trump on policy than ppl give him credit for.

The people in his campaign just tried to sell him at this reasonable party conservative and against Trump that will never work...trying to out Trump Trump wasn't gonna work either but it was better than acting like a Bush lol

I mean your premise makes sense. Your average normal conservative (or liberal) doesnt understand enough about geopolitics to hold a nuanced view about Iran. Being "enthusiastically pro" or "staunchly against" is what I would expect.

It also makes sense that they would then lash out and say they're going to abstain from the midterms because of their Iran feelings. World politics ain't for everyone and your average American voter isn't required to care.
