Classic Blairite delusion. Blair accelerated deindustrialisation, trashed decent jobs, increased the trade deficit, deregulated the banks and kept on blowing up the housing bubble, introduced university tuition fees as interest-bearing loans then tripled them, involved us in an illegal invasion of a sovereign nation that fomented terrorism on British soil, set up corrupt PFI schemes, privatised and indebted elements of the NHS, and relieved poverty slower than deindustrialisation was causing it, thus falling way short of his target by 2010. When 2008 erupted on us, Blair had left us in a very vulnerable position that gave Cameron more excuses for austerity.
Those parties standing in the Makerfield by-election:
Restore (ex Reform)
Reform (ex Tories)
Tories
Labour (red Tories)
Lib Dems (yellow Tories)
Greens (hope with a plan) 💚
I share this view. I believe Burnham's been drafted in to 'save' the Labour Party so it can carry on much as before, with a few cosmetic redrafts. #VoteGreen💚in the Makerfield by-election.
I have this itching in my brain that won't go away about Burnham.
They stood aside and let him in. A Labour Together minister stepped down for him. After seeing all the sht in Owen Jones' recent FOI I don't trust that Burnham isn't another Labour Together candidate built up to -
@thelefttake@heather_c_c It's interesting that the right-wing media never attempted to take down Starmer when he was LOTO with tittle tattle and insinuation.
And £740,000 of undeclared donations to Labour Together flew completely below the media radar.
Interesting occurrence yesterday.
• TV Cameras fixated on Downing Street entrance noticed Chuka Umunna going in.
• No.10 responded that it was just a “routine meeting” and not leadership linked.
• Turns out Chuka has routine meetings at No.10 on behalf of JP Morgan.
4/ Labour should go into the 2029 election with a simple offer: vote Labour, keep Reform out. Concomitant: vote Green, get Farage. Obviously there are local dynamics – SNP, Plaid, Libdems etc – where this won’t be appropriate. But our appeal should be to unite the progressive vote around Labour.
@Keir_Starmer thinks he can stay in power for 10 years! 🤣🤣🤣
It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man with no principles to remain in Downing Street for 10 years" (Matthew 19:24)
I'm personally thrilled by this result; Lewisham deserves a better party to represent them. This was the stomping ground of Ellie Reeves, Heidi Alexander, Damien Egan, Vicky Foxcroft, Janet Daby, and Joanie Reid in 2018/2019. Congratulations to @LiamShrivastava 💚
The Green Party has taken control of Lewisham Council, with 39 of the 54 seats declared.

@0Calamity Thank you Jane! I'm drafting an email now as unfortunately, my constituency has a Reform Councillor now. I'm writing about a bike lane that gets blocked by cars on the school run, and asking why we haven't received our food waste recycling bins. I'm sure he'll be thrilled.
Hahahahah! Just seen this on FB:

Have you found yourself in the hideous position of having a Reform councillor?
Here’s how you can help your brand new councillor settle into local government properly: email them this week with an actual council problem to solve.
Got rubbish piling up? Email them.
Bus vanished from existence? Email them.
Streetlights dead? Email them.
Care package delayed? Email them.
Pavement like the Somme? Email them.
Send them in by the hundred. Make sure they’re made very clear on what their job is.
Being a councillor is not standing in front of the Union flag shouting about dinghies on GB News. It’s reading committee papers at midnight, attending meetings nobody enjoys, holding surgeries in church halls, and dealing with the endlessly glamorous world of drains, social care budgets and recycling disputes.
Welcome to local government.
The boats are in Kent. The bins are in your ward.
The email address for your ward councillor can be found on your local council website as soon as it’s updated.

“Israel said they would kill him, or that he would spend more than 100 years in prison. There were also threats against our family.”
Lara Souza, wife of detained Gaza flotilla activist Thiago Avila, details the psychological torture her husband is subjected to while in Israeli prison. She also reveals that Avila is still unaware that his mother died while he's been in custody.
Avila’s next hearing is scheduled for May 10.
Fact: He traveled there for his cooking show & when they tried to block this one episode, he said he would pull his entire show from the network & this was the first time the world ever saw behind the walls in Gaza 2013
