If you give yourself a "little treat", like sugar or a drink or coffee or nicotine or scrolling on your phone, whenever you are stressed, aren't you just training your subconscious to be stressed, by rewarding it with dopamine. Aren't you just training yourself to feel bad
I’ve noticed that my friends who are already TT professors/on track to be tend to have pretty “lowbrow” habits, as in watch reality TV and play Nintendo and don’t read many novels, while my friends with good taste are largely half-employed and cursed to wander the earth
Imagine my shock as a neurodivergent teen when I first realized that using large vocabulary and eloquent speech doesn't make you less likely to be misinterpreted, rather it adds an entirely new layer of misinterpretation I had never even realized existed in the form of people thinking you're being snobbish or condescending when you're just trying to be specific
One of the big misconceptions is that you need to go on adventures to be a good writer. You need to have life experience and reflect upon it. You need to live a thoughtful life. But experiencing love and death is more important than being a fry cook for the cartels or whatever
Personally I think in a functional society one could be “asleep” or an “NPC” and live a happy and joyful life.

I'm close to a new job offer but the hiring manager is slightly concerned I'm not outgoing enough. You really need to be doing meth to make it in Corporate America these days. You need to be tweaking.
Have there been any studies into the phenomenon of vocal fry? Because it's everywhere now, I even notice men doing it, and I've developed a pretty strong misophonic reaction towards it that I can't explain. I'm hoping understanding its cause will help lessen my reaction to it.
