I got to fly aerobatics again last weekend, my first time in a Super Decathlon. Here's a loop, 4-point roll, and a half Cuban 8. Perfect day over Santa Paula.
@DelusionPosting Those aren't leaves, they're flowers. They're shaped like birds because Crotalaria cunninghamii is pollinated by birds (not defended by them). They grow in arid land, not even threatened by insects. Natural selection meant these plants that attracted birds reproduced more.
@JennJVN@r45_jay@VisionaryVoid@fasc1nate Since 1987, the FAA stopped recommending foaming runways, since it depletes foam that firefighters might need to extinguish a post-crash fire, it makes the plane slide longer (maybe off the end), and it's environmentally damaging. Plus, most pilots missed the foam path anyway.
@ahier I can't wait for these to also be paired with simultaneous translation/transcription via Google Translate or ChatGPT4 for real-time multilingual communication.

@TheDreadShips Hmm, either they built the slideway on a much wetter year, or the PR team scheduling the launch party didn't check the tides. π€·π»ββοΈ At least it fared better than the gentle dipping of the SS Jiugang:

@TheDreadShips Since the age of sail, launching ships stern-first has always been preferable. The bow (being narrower) is much less buoyant, which would cause it to dive even deeper into the water, flex the hull more, and even risk impacting the bottom.
@EvanKirstel Using it to verify our site's content (much of it written offshore or freelance) passes Google's sniff-test for AI-generated content not exceeding 50% of the page. Also useful for quickly writing meta descriptions for SEO, often a labor-intensive process for legacy blog posts.
