The subject isn't conducive to actual graphics, so it occurs to me too late that the formula itself could make an effective graphic, perhaps as a muted background image. https://t.co/zHC5ipWQLc
@brandonhmiller1 One of the main criteria is that the student can gather enough information about the civilization or culture to show its historical significance.
Grade: 7-8
Subject: History
Unit: The Bronze Age of Eurasia
Students will post a timeline of a Bronze Age civilization of their choice, showing how it originated and evolved. At least half of tweets will include an illustration. #525WINTER21
@brandonhmiller1 That's one possibility. I was thinking that, depending on how you slice it, there may be more than you expect (e.g. Mesopotamia can be divided into Sumer, Babylonia, etc.). I could also allow cultures that weren't literate or city-building, like Andronovo or Urnfield.
Bast demands worship (c. 2300 BCE).
Just checking that Twitter's system for posting pictures would be compatible with the assignment outlined in this thread. So far, so good. #525WINTER21
@Melinda36231905 This sounds like it could be very interesting and informative. Would you be networking ahead of time with teachers in other states to ensure that there are other classrooms receptive to the exchange?
@mmcinneshin A major criterion would be that the student has to be able to collect enough information to show how this culture fit into the big picture of the time, and its historical significance.
@mmcinneshin I expect the unit would focus on the big city-building civilizations, but if there weren't enough of those to go around all the students, I'd allow other nations or cultures of the time (e.g. Urnfield, Andronovo).
@mmcinneshin These sound like fun ideas. For the first one, what parameters do you see for the assignment (duration, number of feeds followed or tweets reviewed, that kind of thing)?
Students should show the significance of this civilization to world history and what interests them about it. Each student will ask at least one classmate a question on their topic, and students will try to answer each question (with citations). #525WINTER21
The timeline will conclude with whether and how this civilization was affected by the Bronze Age Collapse. Lastly, students will follow timelines with a link to a bibliography they have posted online (Blogger, Google Docs, etc.). #525WINTER21
