As you can see from the smiles, we were all chuffed to receive the Highly Commended Award in the Energy Consultancy of the Year category at the South West Energy Efficiency Awards 2022!
So much respect and thanks to these chaps for working so hard!
Dartmoor Energy Limted
On train to Farnborough @CityPlumbingUK
to meet @Your_Energy_YW and interview new trainees.
They'll spend 2 years on the job learning about installing and maintaining heat pumps, PV, batteries etc using BetaTeach methodologies
Yesterday we walked away from a potential ASHP job due to the occupant refusing to allow upgrades to radiators in their large open plan kitchen.
The heat loss of the room was 1.7kW at -0.2ยฐ external temperature. The two existing radiators gave a combined output of 993w
@heatpolicyrich@_heatgeek@betateach@Your_Energy_YW@elitehull@swebster56 It was half in the kitchen and half in the dining room.. open plan. Got to have an emitter in the kitchen sized to heat it to 18ยฐ. We often do under counter plinth heaters but that option wasn't a goer either. Defo short of MCS and BUS grant.. but it will get installed I reckon!
@betateachpod Existing rads had output of 993w at 45 flow DT5 at 18ยฐ. Our recommended was to keep one exisiting ornate vertical and replace a K2 and add another K2 giving output of 1.8kW at 45 dt5 18ยฐ. So we needed an extra rad and they weren't having it. We can do plinth heaters but no good
THIS is part of the problem in the industry... THIS is what gives heat pumps a bad name!
We lost 18k of work but we do it properly or not at all.
We must have high standards across the board and this needs to be checked thoroughly.

There's a lot of money going into hydrogen development. My Q is always, is this the best use of our budget?
A 20% blend will only result 6-7% reduction in GHG emissions. A greater reduction could be made for less money making existing boilers efficient.

@BobHRoss@heatpolicyrich@theheatinghub A reverse cycle defrost uses very little extra energy.. it just takes heat from the house / buffer and wouldn't reduce SCOP by more than 5%. I'm sure there's been LOTS of tests.
@john_oes@RichMWPHS@OctopusEnergy Hopefully the 'final post installation inspector' says to take it out and start again.. probably best to begin at the base and work upwards aye? ๐ Sounds expensive! ๐
For many years I have really championed @OctopusEnergy for the unique way they have reinvented electricity supply & supported low carbon technology growth.
However, this is a recent heat pump installation by Octopus for one of their customers. I feel sorry for theโฆ 1/3
โ Measured real-world performance of Air Source Heat Pumps has increased significantly compared to data from past field trials.
โ Heat pumps performed well even on the coldest observed days, with only a relatively small reduction in performance.

@Andyi1989 Decent inverters. Always like the colour screen with a good amount of data viewable. No manufacturer support though. Lower wattage panels 250-350 and it will be all good ๐
