Chicagoland now has a new way of honoring Hersh Goldberg Polin, one meal at a time.

“Hersh’s Fridge,” named in memory of the slain hostage with deep Chicago roots, is quietly making a difference for anyone who needs a fresh kosher meal at any hour of the day.

Supported by volunteers, local kosher restaurants, and a dedicated team of teens, the project reflects Hersh’s spirit of helping others and bringing people together. 💙

“Welcome to Hersh’s Fridge: Let all who are hungry come and eat.”

Chicago teens have organized a kosher community fridge offering free meals to anyone in need, in the memory of murdered hostage Hersh Goldberg-Polin.

All meals can be taken anonymously, at any hour. The effort aims to support Jewish families facing food insecurity, who often experience additional challenges when keeping kosher.

Volunteers from a local mosque and church join the Jewish community to package the kosher meals, truly embodying unity at a time when many Americans are struggling with uncertainty around SNAP benefits.

The organization leading the initiative said: “Hersh was about doing good work, bringing people together, bridging divides… We hope this fridge will be an engine for that in the community.”

This initiative is the embodiment of Hersh’s message, which continues to live on through us. 💛
