Yes we are. @GlasgowCC got £448k in library funding from Scottish govt last year. Aberdeen only got £16k and we need £280k.
We aren’t too far from Dundee… we will happily give you a tour of the neighbourhoods and show you why these libraries are needed @HumzaYousaf.
@wylie_alan The problem is entrepreneurialism is very ideological. And I have seen this agenda being prioritised at the expense of putting resources into much more pressing social and community needs.
@wylie_alan Also it seems to come hand-in-hand with partnerships with ethically questionable corporations. Santander and JP Morgan are two that have been involved. Their branding is then displayed in the library. That worries me. But that is very specific to BIPCs.
It’s death by a thousand cuts in Public Libraries right now, just look at Croydon where Labour is trying to spin massive cuts to opening hrs as a good thing. They might be keeping the doors open but behind the scenes they’re hollowing-out the service, closure by stealth 🤷♀️
🚨 We’ve just launched our response to the Scottish government’s consultation on renting.
We’re demanding rent controls and more control over our own homes.
✍️Take 20 seconds and tell the Scottish government you agree: https://t.co/E7C0REjAof

@soosider3@bmac1906@LGiU @SusaninLangside @GlasgowCC This is incorrect, sorry. GMB have voted to take industrial action and Unison are balloting because @GlasgowCC are refusing to settle the equal pay issue and trying to exclude hundreds of front-line workers from the settlement.
Is there any truth in this Facebook post on Glasgow West End Community Notice Board?
It seems to suggest that Hillhead Library is a candidate for closure.
@wylie_alan@stillawake@Doormouse83 Yeah. In my experience there is still a lack of clarity around whether sleeping in the library should be allowed or whether it is "problematic" behaviour.
@stillawake@Doormouse83@wylie_alan There is, unfortunately, a history of public libraries' policy (I am not talking about staff) othering and being hostile to people in homeless situations. Rules (written or unwritten) against sleeping or acceptable cleanliness are, or have been, common.
Some folks might not like it BUT Homeless people and people with mental health issues ARE part of the community and as such have as much right to use Public Libraries as everyone else does 🤷♀️
@ConnorGillies@BBCScotNine@BBCScotland Absolutely appalling. @SusaninLangside using language that perpetuates damaging stereotypes. This is not the rhetoric of someone who is in touch with or wants to understand citizens and communities.
1/2: Yet more opposition from communities on new drive-thru proposals. It’s clear residents don’t want these on their doorsteps, bringing air pollution, more traffic, noise & litter, not to mention the environmental impact during a #ClimateEmergency#COP26 https://t.co/a72PEyo9P6
@SaveWhiteinch I think it wouldn't be advisable. Unfortunately this appears to be what @GlasgowCC leadership want, precarious underfunded community groups taking on the responsibilities they want to abandon. Reducing public spending and employment in the city.
@SaveWhiteinch @SusaninLangside @ottodidactic Surely @SusaninLangside and @GlasgowCC’s lack of consultation with the community council is in direct violation of the community’s rights under the Community Empowerment Act?
