The historic carriage roads in Acadia National Park are closed to all users as of March 19 until further notice, the NPS said. The roads, muddy and soft, are closed each year during the spring thaw to protect them from damage. A young Maryland man died when he hiked the low-tide trail to Bar Island in Acadia National Park and was stranded when the incoming tide submerged the sand bridge to the island.
