On behalf of City Council and the residents of Maple Ridge, we are saddened to hear and extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and countless fans of Jim Robson on his passing❤️ We remember Jim as a beloved hometown hero whose impact on our community and on Canadian sport will never be forgotten.
Jim grew up in Maple Ridge, attending Alexander Robinson School before moving on to Maple Ridge Junior and Senior High School. He was well known locally as an athlete, playing basketball for Maple Ridge High School and baseball for the Haney Junior team.
Jim went on to become the trusted ‘Voice of the Vancouver Canucks’ for more than 25 years, calling over 2,000 NHL games and covering Stanley Cup finals, NHL all-star games, and international competitions, including the 1984 Olympic Games 🏒 His remarkable career earned him induction into the NHL Hockey Hall of Fame, the BC Hockey Hall of Fame, and the BC Sports Hall of Fame.
Maple Ridge was proud to honour Jim in 2017 by naming a section of 105 Avenue, from Lougheed Highway to the traffic circle at Tamarack Lane, as Jim Robson Way. We will always take pride in the fact that one of Canada’s most iconic voices came from Maple Ridge 🍁

🚍 Council has adopted the Lougheed Transit Corridor Area Plan, setting a long-term vision for growth along Lougheed Hwy and Dewdney Trunk Rd aligned with future Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).
As Maple Ridge grows, the plan supports new housing, jobs, and services, focusing development around four proposed BRT stations to create walkable, mixed-use hubs.
It’s a roadmap for future growth.

🎄❄️ On the first days of winter readiness…
Our fleet has its holiday glow-up on! With unpredictable winter weather, City crews have installed salters on our trucks ahead of the holidays.
🎶 And a little seasonal count goes like this:
✨ Fiiiiive golden tandem trucks
✨ Two single-axle trucks
✨ And five one-ton trucks ready to roll!
While significant snowfall isn’t expected, forecasts are calling for wet conditions, gusty winds, and the potential for patchy frost or ice, especially overnight and in higher elevations. Having this equipment in place and salt stocked up means crews can respond quickly if conditions change.
🚗 Heading out? Be winter-ready too—make sure your vehicle has proper winter tires and allow extra travel time.
📣 See a concern? If you notice icy spots or road issues, report them so crews can respond:

Stay safe—and enjoy the holidays 🎄✨
From planning to progress, we helped keep our #MapleRidge community engaged, healthy, and more connected in 2025. 🏊♀️🎭🚒
This year, we advanced planning for major recreation facilities and new park spaces, enhanced access to arts and culture, and delivered vibrant community events that brought neighbours together. We also strengthened public safety, emergency preparedness, and community supports — focusing on wellbeing, inclusion and connection.

Snow—what’s the deal with it anyway? 🥶 We all know it’s coming—snow’s just out there, lurking, waiting for the perfect moment to ruin your morning. So when it does show up, grab that shovel and clear the sidewalks by 10:00 AM❄️🚶♀️
Why?
✅ Safe sidewalks = happy neighbours.
✅ Ignoring it = slippery and dangerous conditions
👉 Pro Tip: Clear early before your fluffy snow turns into sidewalk cement.
Snow—always out to get us.

Christmas lights create such a cozy glow, but don’t ruin the vibe with a fire alarm.
Avoid hanging lights with staples, which can damage cords and always use outdoor lights outdoors, and indoor lights indoors.
Check your lights for frayed wires to prevent shorts and sparks and don’t overload your electrical outlets with too many plugs.
