Every death by suicide is absolute tragedy.
In the UK, THREE QUARTERS of all suicides are by MEN.
25 times more research funding per person affected is spent on cancer research compared to mental health research & the differential is even greater for suicide prevention research
As my time @orygen_aus sadly comes to an end next month, so happy to be able to present preliminary findings from @MSCActions SEYMOUR tomorrow! #SuicidePrevention
So many wonderful colleagues to thank for their support, mentoring, knowledge, collegiality and friendship 🙂
I was at the Royal Observatory Edinburgh today as part of the @UKRI_News#InternationalMensDay event. It's great to have men's mental health and suicide discussed. It's so important that we #AskThemAboutSuicide when we are concerned https://t.co/QBgikJeI9N

To mark our next chapter & better reflect what we do, our name is changing.
We are now SAMH, Scottish Action for Mental Health.
Because action is what is needed for Scotland’s mental health, today and tomorrow.
@Kirsten_Russell@dr_djmacintyre Important work! With very real concerns about an increasing risk of a global or UK recession this couldn't be coming at a more important time. The more we understand about the link between economics and financial instability and suicide the better.

We are working with the Samaritans and are interested in speaking to those (living in Scotland) who have experienced financial instability and suicidal thoughts and/or behaviour at some stage in their lives. If you would like to take part please get in touch. Please RT 🙏
We're kicking off conference season by discussing the challenges facing young people and their mental health.
Thank you, @MareeToddMSP & @JustBeth15 for joining our conversation around hope and resiliency.

Globally, the impact of flooding is a recognised risk factor for suicide. If you are checking up on the safety of friends and family in flood affected areas, don't forget to check on their mental health and to ask about suicide if you are worried.

With flooding expected in Scotland we need to remember its impact on mental health. In 2021 the @EnvAgency in England said that 2 years after a flood of more than 100cm above the internal floor level costs £4,136 in mental health impact for each adult.

📊 Almost half (52%) of respondents from our #StigmaStudy said people with experience of severe and enduring mental illness had felt under pressure to avoid discussing their mental health at work.

"It’s not realistic to simply expect people to be resilient.” 💬
Our media volunteer, Kira Holliman, and @Dan_SAMH spoke to @MartynMcL about the disproportionate impact financial struggles have on suicide rates and its effect on those most vulnerable.
