@mallorycrowe @Amplifood1 Great point. I remember having similar thoughts when learning ways to communicate more effectively with those who are hard of hearing. I think a lot of the tips apply to both groups, but really help just about anyone!
As someone living in Northern MN, I am no stranger to packing supplies in case you get stuck on the side of the road when it is -20 outside. What a great guide that is accessible for those with aphasia! #EauCLamarAphasia
Do you have aphasia or know someone with aphasia who needs to create an emergency kit? Check out these "aphasia-friendly" emergency kit checklists from the Aphasia Center of California. You can download these checklists here: https://t.co/YZrukVGzAf

@ARCaphasia@kcmhowell What a great opportunity to build connections with others affected by aphasia, fulfill that travel need and have fun most importantly. I imagine the laughs and smiles would combat some of the emotional effects of aphasia :)
It would be really neat to see more aphasia community groups with a focus on physical activity. Even though it is due to a brain injury, a healthier body could lead to a better functioning brain! #EauCLamarAphasia
Wow, what a cool idea! This is a very creative way to help PWA to meet others experiencing aphasia, and to help them learn about community programs. #EauCLamarAphasia
We will be at Shirecliffe Community Centre on Tuesday 13th February for a Pop Up Aphasia Cafe...free coffee, tea, biscuits and you will be able to try out the different speech therapy programs we support
“When supporting a person with #aphasia it is important to not only acknowledge their experience, but I think yours also. Keeping up the #communication, sharing your experiences, good & bad can help with understanding each other's journey. To listen & To care”

Sometimes getting better in aphasia recovery means finding new ways to express one's self. Art for Matt has helped him find a mode of expression and a new post-stroke identity that has improved his well being. #EauCLamarAphasia
@jkhappycamper @bsydney3919 Thanks for sharing, @jkhappycamper. I love how powerful music is to so many. In my current job, we often talk about how music remains a strong connection for those living with Alzheimers or dementia oftentimes. It's cool to see it's impact for those living with aphasia also!
Recovery does not rest just on the patient. It rests on communication partners as well. Connecting instead of correcting is one way to help someone progress in their aphasia recovery, by supporting the patient where they are at and encouring all communication. #EauCLamarAphasia
Connecting through #pictures, this is a very important message!
“Connect, don’t correct. This is more about making a #connection and sharing memories. Focus on connecting with the person, not correcting them...” # aphasia is hidden.

@SarahNorthcott8 Thank you for noting this, @SarahNorthcott8! I imagine little things that seem inconsequential to us being so important to a patient, hence therapy should focus on helping them find that piece of normalcy again!
This study shows how conversational therapy in VR can be just as effective as in person conversational therapy, and even showed slightly greater improvements in specific areas! It is one way aphasia therapy can look 😊 #EauCLamarAphasia
Conversational Therapy through Semi-Immersive Virtual Reality Environments for Language Recovery and Psychological Well-Being in Post Stroke Aphasia. https://t.co/89BUBukm8j
This isn't specifically about language intervention, but is important to consider. Care of the whole person is essential. Sometimes other areas must be addressed first for therapy to be effective #EauCLamarAphasia
44% of stroke survivors will experience depression, while 16% will experience suicidal thoughts. This can make recovery difficult.
It is for this reason treatment & care of mental health was identified as our top priority by @PspStroke and @LindAlliance.
#WorldMentalHealthDay
This is neat! For many, loss of independence is difficult - an app like this that the patient can manage on their own could be really empowering! #EauCLamarAphasia
What a cool idea for therapy! Cognitive stimulation and could encourage langue if describing what a patient is building or what pieces they need. #EauCLamarAphasia
Looking for a fun activity that provides #cognitive stimulation and #laughter?
Try ‘Lego therapy’, Using #Lego can teach an individual important cognitive skills, as well as providing a #fun and #memorable experience!
Look at the #smile on both their faces! ❤️ What #aphasia?
A picture is worth a thousand words. If you ever struggle to say a word that’s just at the tip of your tongue, you have a slight idea of what some people with #aphasia deal with. Pictures can be one of the most effective tools to help people with aphasia #communicate!
#bekind
This is so fitting with everything we have learned in our Aphasia course. The PWA often has much they want to say, but they just can't get it out. #EauCLamarAphasia
“Never assume a person who has difficulty communicating has nothing to say...” Breathtakingly beautiful and powerful quote from one of our members!
Remember, #aphasia is #invisible! 😊 #stroke#bekind#braininjury
@IsbellTristen This is absolutely heartbreaking, for patients with aphasia to lose their friends when they need them most 😔 I hope aphasia awareness will grow in our society so that no one has to face it alone.
