@TheLotanos If you aren't going to give me a shiny sword, give me a good story or a permanent change, preferably both. Either way I think the jump from platformer to imsim is not only simple but allows you to have more reactivity and lore quests. Hell, have you considered a pivot?
@TheLotanos Players want tangible rewards for their time, sure. But some of the most memorable quests are entirely lore- and character-centric. The quest I mentioned before is Volare! from F:NV. When you beat it, the bomber stays floating. You have made a tangible change in the world
@TheLotanos Every quest requires context to justify 'attack this' or 'use this' multiple times. It can be as simple as "this door needs a powerup" and as complex as "these folks found a plane underwater and they need you to plant explosives to pull it up". >>>
Esoteric Ebb is the closest thing to a D&D play session with a hilarious, professional, yeah-sure-you-can-do-that DM. Reactive, funny, mysterious and genuinely smart with its worldbuilding. The first truly great Child of Disco.
After writing 1,25 million words, after spending years pitching this mix of my two favorite games of all time: Planescape: Torment and Disco Elysium...
ESOTERIC EBB is FINALLY FINISHED!
Go play the full FIRST DAY now in the Next Fest demo, then bring your SAVE FILE to launch!
While we're at it: Eternal Afternoon is an incredibly atmospheric timeloop game set in a nostalgic Israeli neighborhood. The amount of interactions you can do, big and small, is super impressive and varied.
Incredibly heartening stuff, absolutely nailed the aesthetics
@dotpixel3d Haha, it's not your fault - I just got a little carried away. Still, it's super interesting to us on the team that the game got a lot of traction with you guys in Japan. Can you maybe guess why?
@dotpixel3d EDIT: Wow we didn't realize the original post made the rounds. I know about shows being finalized in the last week but didn't know this was such a common nightmare. All you behind-the-scenes folks - godspeed. You're all underappreciated. I wish you luck and great fortune
@dotpixel3d It'd be cool*
One dev did cinematography & lighting, and I designed video art for a few local theatrical shows. We really like theater and just set out to make a funny jam game about it. I hope we didn't touch an actual nerve, that was never our intention. (2/2)
@dashimaruJPN Thanks for the feature! And yeah, it is a very game-y job.
One of our programmers was a cinematographer and lighting guy, and I designed video art for a few theatrical shows. Also all of us *really* enjoy physically taking something and moving it around in first-person games

It's the depression era. You're the only gaffer around. Read the cabaret's script and give the right actor the right spotlight - all in real time.

I can only sheepishly hope 2026 will bring the start of some goddamn quiet. This year taught me how much I love learning and reading about history, but not living in it.
It'll all be funny eventually, you know. Unfortunately, 'eventually' is not right now.
Things I did this year:
- 2 short films
- 2 game jam games
- made a working proof of concept for a giant-ass imsim
- put that imsim in haitus 'cause oh god
- sent 200+ resumes
- finally got a full-time job
- did video art for an original musical
- finally beat persona 3 reload
When it comes to actual global events, never have I experienced such blinding heights and such harrowing lows.
"There are decades where nothing happens, and years where decades happen", or so goes the quote.
