New #SNRJournal article by @DaniLinHunter1, Callan A. Knebel, Gregory J. Newman & @MBalgopal. #CitizenScience expands the scale of research & enhances learning and civic engagement. Yet unequal prioritization of goals complicates achieving such outcomes.

This past February I did a thing. I'm very proud to share that my TEDx talk is now publicly available. I hope this talk reminds you that you don't need an invitation to make a positive impact on the world. We can be powerful change makers no matter our age

Want to increase the #diversity of participants in your #CitizenScience project? Have you tried recruiting through #partnerships? This new CS:TP paper by @DaniLinHunter1 Valerie Johnson & @CoopSciScoop shows a promising strategy for increasing diversity

Valerie Johnson, @CoopSciScoop, and I show that partnering with #HBCUs and high schools engaged people of color, and an internship program with students at a PWI engaged lower income individuals.
Promising results for a field looking for strategies to increase diversity!
First paper of my postdoc is published!

Did you hear we are starting a new group for participatory science graduate students and early career professionals? Share with anyone you know studying #CitizenScience#CommunityScience#VolunteerMonitoring.
Details on Sept meetings here: https://t.co/5g84XJPofW
Dear co-authors: when you’re providing input, instead of writing a comment saying “you should add a sentence/info about XYZ” you can just ADD THE SENTENCE and track the changes! Thank you in advance.

First paper of my #postdoc was accepted w minor revisions, and I got a revise/resubmit on my last PhD paper today.
Also, literally crying at #Reviewer 1's comments on my postdoc paper🥹Why is it so hard for academics to be nice in reviews? Reviewer 1, you made my day!
As a #gradstudent studying #citizenscience, I often felt like I was on an island in a department, and even lab, where I only barely fit in. I've heard stories from others who feel similar.
As a postdoc, I'm trying to do something about it. Join the CSA grad student group👇🏽
Calling all participatory sciences graduate students! We are launching a new Participatory Sciences Graduate Students Group and we want your help co-creating it! Join us at exploratory meetings this September to learn more about how you can get involved. https://t.co/5g84XJPofW
Great job Trevor! You were an awesome Crowd the Tap (@tap_crowd) intern, and we're really excited to see what all you accomplish.
Also super gratifying as a mentor to read things like this. So honored to get to invest in so many young researchers☺️
Trevor Phelps mainly thought of work that would likely never see real-world use and was neutral toward his internship. Looking back, this internship has taught him more than any class. This experience made him so much more aware of the skills needed. https://t.co/0LavokuSAb
@ldpharr We're the opposite. We're doing dual academic life but decided that we valued family > career & wouldn't do long distance. Both of our careers have been harder for it, but it's what we wanted.
What I really want is for academia to accept that some folks have different values.
@ana_verahrami If you're looking for community outreach jobs, NAAEE has a job board that will send environmental ed jobs to your email every few weeks. Not sure if you're trying to stay in CO, but there's usually a lot of opportunities there: https://t.co/dc4zkPsiL2
This article completely misses the mark on WHY data gaps exist. These gaps are racial spatial gaps created by various participation biases. The framing of the importance of "new birders" is 🗑️🤮. When I tried to bring up these issues I was told they don't matter b/c statistics.
Enjoyed talking with @claudiahammond, @juliaravey and @rjmsci for a @BBCRadio4 story on predatory publishing. Still waiting for an invite from @BryanCranston to toast the very real scientific paper we co-authored together!🤔

@sierralimakilo@tap_crowd Agree, though i still think we need to address that the name is a barrier even if it's not the main one.
We have a session on this at C*Sci on Thur 9am local if you're interested. As part of it, @CoopSciScoop will be introducing a handbook to help project leaders do just this.
Also, in case you haven't seen it yet, here's a paper written by my postdoc mentor, @CoopSciScoop, and many others, in which they present similar ideas: https://t.co/Xp0GHXKBwm
People often ask what data support or refute rebranding citizen science. Here is our humble attempt to contribute some: https://t.co/znOE191cdy
We don't claim that this paper should settle terminology disputes, but hopefully it can help you make evidence-informed decisions. 8/8
