Was talking to someone who went broke and he asked how to rebuild. I've seen this happen before, and people hate my answer. They feel like I'm being glib or dismissive. I'm not. The answer is you have to become obsessed with business. Read every business book. I told him don't ask me for recommendations. Start reading them all. Almost all of them suck. So what?

The purpose isn't the information, although you'll find that even one idea could change how you do things. It's to tune your antenna. To always have it thinking about your company, or if you don't have a biz, about starting one. Even the slop books (99%) are effective because your mind will rebel against the inaneness, and this itself leads to insight. Kind of like when someone is doing something so terribly that you get fed up and go, "FINE! I'll do this myself!"

The spiritual problem is that you may become infested with the demon of greed. Making money is like eating. You have to eat to live and you need money to live. Obsessing over how to make more money can lead to demonic influence.

Of course, having a business fail invites the demons as well. You become full of despair. That's why you still have to go to church or whatever your religion is, and once you start doing better, you need to part with your money or it will stick to you like tar. I've seen that happen. Money can ruin people as much or more so as failure. A

t least if you have spiritual problems with money, there's optionality. You can give it away, and if it hurts to give, that's a sign that the demons have their hooks in much deeper than you're consciously aware of. If you're dead broke, not much you can do, you'll be bummed out (the demons feed off of this).

In a perfect world you won't have any of these problems. Good luck with that.

But it does start with understanding that "success" is as much about where you direct your focus and attention. Navel gazing about your problems is the antithesis of this. Focusing outward is where you open yourself up to possibilities.

As you become an adult, you realize that things around you weren't just always there; people made them happen. But only recently have I started to internalize how much tenacity *everything* requires. That hotel, that park, that railway. The world is a museum of passion projects.

Ethiopian food is the one great cuisine to come out of Africa. Ethiopians are hard-working entrepeneurs. I was so happy that when I lived in Dallas there was a good-sized Ethiopian community and so we had a huge range of Ethiopian restaurants.

Now I'm in Utah where there are only two (2) Ethiopian joints and they're within a block of each other. I miss their food. Several nations have made recipes based on raw meat (steak tartare, carpaccio, hackepeter, carne apache) but the only one I loved and wanted more of was kitfo, which has such a strong beef flavor.

One of the cool things about their food is that they are Coptic Christians, and they obey fast days. So they fast from meat every Friday, all through Lent, and on various Saints' days. One Ethiopian woman told me they had to abstain from meat for like a third of the year. As a result they have a vibrant, delicious, and varied vegetarian cuisine.

When I'm specially hungry I order the vegetarian platter with doro wat or lamb tibs or other meat in the middle. When I'm just normally hungry, I get the vegetarian platter. All Ethiopian places serve this.

Entrepreneurship is more about stamina than it is about genius

The Strait of Hormuz has been closed for 8 days. Everyone thinks this is about oil. This is about what oil becomes. 92% of the world's sulfur comes from refining oil and gas. Close the Strait of Hormuz and you don't just lose 20 million barrels of crude per day. You lose the feedstock for sulfuric acid, the single most produced chemical on Earth. Sulfuric acid is how we extract copper. It's how we extract cobalt. Without it, you can't make transformers, EV batteries, or the substrates inside every data center on the planet. One chemical, made from one feedstock, shipped through one chokepoint. The cascade goes further: Qatar ships 30% of Taiwan's liquefied natural gas through Hormuz. Taiwan has 11 days of reserves left. TSMC, the company that makes 90% of the world's advanced chips, draws 8.9% of Taiwan's total electricity. No gas, no power, no chips. Then food. 33% of the world's nitrogen fertilizer feedstock moves through the Strait. Half of all humans alive today exist because of synthetic nitrogen. Sulfur, semiconductors, food. That makes three supply chains, one 21-nautical-mile chokepoint, and zero domestic alternatives at scale.

@levelsio @NicoloLuccini You can get best coffee in Ethiopia, birth place of coffee. You are right that the Gov wants to export all the good coffee but 50% ends up here as there is strong coffee drinking culture.

Noise is a secret destroyer of productivity.

It is secret because it impacts cognition, not effort, so we don’t notice, but a 10db noise increase (from a dishwasher to a vacuum) lowers productivity by 5%. Noise is also greater in poorer neighborhoods... https://t.co/RaIAsSudyY
