Scott, those who argue that anyone SHOULD introduce a substance into their bodies have the burden of persuasion.
For reasons which are pretty obvious, tens of millions of us are experiencing a crisis of public trust. That's on our "leaders," not us.

Oregon will continue struggle to find consensus as long as "ABORTION!" remains a cheap source of votes to idiots.
So feel free to focus on fixing rampant public corruption in Illinois, Senator. Oregonians never asked you to butt in.

The question isn't whether women should have "control of their reproductive systems." (I, for one, support death as a potential punishment for rape.)
The issue here is hypocritical politicians. A military draft, for example, reveals "my body, my choice" as disingenuous fantasy.
Was @jordanbpeterson treating @Rogerpalfree? If not, then your argument that Dr. Peterson's actions are "a clear violation of basic ethical standards for a clinical psychologist" means that all psychologists who publicly favor euthanasia are unethical.
Peterson’s offense was rhetorically recommending suicide to someone who responded to an argument about population growth (see below). This is a clear violation of basic ethical standards for a clinical psychologist. What’s ideological is trying to frame this as a witch hunt.
@dkaplan007, your "The Most Dangerous Branch" convinced me of the moral hazard of an unrestrained Supreme Court and caused me to perceive you as a principled man. What is your take on Mr. Mitchell's New Yorker profile and on his work?
The members of my guild blithely present Judicial Supremacy (JS) as inaurguably virtuous, when in reality it is almost certainly the cause of the unseriousness of our political branches. In the present crisis, JS isn't the solution to the problem; it IS the problem.

I would be far less skeptical of "Rank Choice Voting" if it wasn't such a transparent ploy to hamstring the messy (but peaceful) resolution of fundamental disagreements about the size and scope of Government.
The alternative is the Rule of Force, which has problems of its own.
Is there a better commercial for Rank Choice Voting than what is going on with the Speaker's vote in the House ? The current system, from primary to generals to speaker voting, empowers the extremes to the expense of constituants. Time to change
Dear Republican Congress Critters: You don't need to panic every time The Blob tells you to.
Governmentalists want Govt at the center of every American's life. But millions of Americans disagree. THAT'S what this fight is about.
Let the process unfold.

This idea is not unprecedented. Pres John Quincy Adams served in the House of Representatives after serving a single term as President. And "Speaker Trump" would certainly not be the most odious Speaker in U.S. History. Let "The People's House" have it out...so we don't have to.
What if former Pres Trump is ideally suited to serve as Speaker of the House of Representatives?
Even #NeverTrump partisans have to admit Mr. Trump was an effective Republican Head of Government, just as #AlwaysTrump partisans must admit he wasn't always ideal as Head of State.
With all due respect, modern Congresses have largely become asylums in which we park overly ambitious bloviating fools. And our entire system of "Checks and Balances" is premised on the idea that forcing snakes and scorpions to fight each other protects us from both.
Maybe what's missing from Portland is Competent Leadership, Law and Order, Moderation-in-Manner, Consensus-in-Decision, and Live-and-Let-Live in Practice.
And maybe as long as Portland chooses to indulge Petulant Adolescents, Portland will continue to struggle.

Maybe what’s missing from Portland is a healthy, walkable downtown. What would happen if we created a six-block “Carless Square” in the heart of Portland?

(That was a relief, as our German family has always exhibited common sense.)
Default Rule: Leave people the hell alone. Most people will generally make the right decision on their own AND it's the only way you can expect people to leave you alone without being a total hypocrite.
Any mentality of "Control for Control's Sake" (CfCS) isn't even acceptable in the Army (although bad leadership happens everywhere).
Outside of any necessarily regimented institution, CfCS is the province of charlatans, idiots, madmen, and fools.

Our NCO son is deployed but was able to spend Christmas with German family. Any sensational story requires a grain of salt, so I asked Tom for a sense of how our German relations feels about this.
He replied: [I observed] no facemasks in Germany, nor any seeming desire to do so.
I wish the world could read @courtneyellis' string, below, and understand that every single human being is loved beyond love (including you). We are all swaddled in a great and mysterious beauty, and the only rational orientation to reality is humility, awe, and gratitude.
My high school choir director had us learn "Silent Night" in German, which we decided was ridiculous. Lots of teenaged eye rolling.
Fast forward ten years. I'm a pastor doing a Christmas Eve service at an assisted living facility. I make the rounds, saying hello to everyone. 1/
So China is mad at the West because we are instituting border controls which are less strict than their own internal controls...for a disease which their totalitarian carelessness created in the first place? (Granted, we probably funded it.)

The opposite of love is not hate; the opposite of love is indifference.
The day we consented to the #BrownKotekPoliticalMachine's abandonment of our most unwell to a gaggle of idealistic ideologues was the day Oregon flunked "Moral Responsibility 101."
#HadEnoughOR?
When the English language is subordinated to the whims of power-mad crazy ideologues, the world gets dumber. As Oregonians say (privately): "Believe what you want, even if it's utter nonsense; but I don't consent to being coerced into pretending I believe it, too."
