I am in the Northern Province of Zambia with a team from the government, the UN, and CSOs to review the Social and Humanitarian Cash Transfer Programme. It is encouraging to witness the level of ownership by the local government and the program's usefulness to
local community.
At the national launch of the #1000Days in Social Cash Transfer pilot recently, in Chipata, @Unicef Zambia Dep Rep, Henri Heikura on behalf of UNRC called for inclusion of the 1000 days under the overall #SocialCashTransfer programme. #Zambia@UNZambia@UNICEFAfrica
We had a timely and critical exchange with our partners showcasing our joint work to ensure inclusive social protection and a life free from poverty #ForEveryChild. We also reflected on our future priorities.
Here are some key takeaways—a short thread:
Random takeaways from Day1 #GlobalForumASP. @gamblingondev keynote stressing 'systems require more than just programmes' and need to 'change the default to building systems' while never underestimating the politics (systems? See https://t.co/YkUHyBythu)
Today in Muzoka ward (CWAC), Pemba District, this gentleman reminded us that when talking about Cash Plus in social protection, it is important not to be selfish. Meanwhile, the lady added, "An old person should not be expected to graduate." Community dialogue is so important!
Today, we jointly monitored social protection programmes (SCT, FSIP, FSP, keeping girls in schools, etc) in Namwala district #Zambia. Dialoguing with district and community stakeholders on the mainstreaming on gender, nutrition, and disabilities was so lively and enlightening!
Cheering at the Presidential launch of the National Decentralisation Policy in Chongwe, aimed at steering bottom-up approaches for more effective service delivery, especially for women and #children. Citizens of #Zambia don't be shy! Participate in shaping your future!
And here's our @unicefzambia social policy team CELEBRATING! ☺️ Sharing our joy! More than 5 million Zambians, including #children, living in vulnerable situations are benefitting from regular, reliable and predictable social cash transfers! Transfer-mational!
Please take time to read this poem by Cleric Tembwe of Namibia. It moved us to tears at the #WorldChildrensDay event in #Kazungula. But beyond tears we must be spurred on to act even more decisively to support the rights and needs of children with disability #foreverychild
The bird's eye view when Kazungula went blue on Saturday. Beforehand, Heads of State from Botswana, Zambia, Namibia and Zimbabwe pledged to work together to improve the lives of children in the region. #WorldChildrensDay#GoBlueKazungula
It’s #WorldChildrensDay - a celebration of the universality of children’s rights. We’ll be at Kazungula bridge with children & young people from 🇧🇼 🇿🇲 🇿🇼 🇳🇦who’ll interact with the Presidents of the 4 countries before the bridge turns blue tonight #GoBlueKazungula#foreverychild
NEW report from @WorldBank & @unicefzambia aims to analyze the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of public spending on #SocialProtection and #Jobs in #Zambia: Zambia Social Protection and Jobs Public Expenditure Review.
An honour to meet Hon. @S_Musokotwane and discuss our programme of cooperation in #Zambia and how @unicefzambia with partners can further support decentralised public financial management, analytical work & more public expenditure reviews including for #education and #nutrition
Excellent & wide ranging discussion today with Hon Minister of Community Development & Social Services. From social protection, promoting & protecting children’s rights, well-being & development to planning World Children’s Day there’s exciting & important work ahead #Zambia
The elections in 🇩🇪 are over, all votes are counted - but it is unclear who will succeed #AngelaMerkel as Chancellor.
This short clip👇explains the results.
Hopefully, inter-party negotiations to form a coalition and elect a new Chancellor won't take too long!
