@death2theturtle@lrj0hns1@RFBWCF Thanks, remembered wrong and should have looked it up. Still striking of "connected to" has to be interpreted as a narrowing of thre prohibition. Thr larger issue in my mind so how the congregation understands that term, but I doubt that can be ascertained from reading minutes.
@death2theturtle@lrj0hns1@RFBWCF I'm sure you know this, but the (I think) 2023 overture which changed 7-3 orginally included the term deaconess, but this was struck in OC. This combined with the historical use of this term cause me to think that it should not interpreted as just a feminized equiv. to deacon.
@RevIanHard It seems odd to me that we would be making so many changes while we have an interm coordinator. I do understand that we may need to make some, but these like more than immediately necessary.
@johnandrewwords @FederalHusband @ZacharyGarris I've found it rather common for people to be more temperate in print than online. I consider this an example of some people really benefit from an editor.
@sassiterian "Come everyone with questions, come to the classroom;
and he that has no answers, come and understand!
Come buy books and journal articles without money and without price."

@KenShepherd As DE chair, I have the problem that if I can't get someone else to take something on, it can fall into my lap by default. You can easily end up with 2-3 meetings a week, although that does include some things which aren't specifically DE related.
@sassiterian BCO 3-2 lists visiting the sick and comforting the afflicted as examples of ecclesiastical power. I hope we wouldn't view these activities as limited to officers.
@MeltonDuncan@brfranklin4@DannyMorgan0 For anyone wishing to track this down, I believe the correct citation is 2009-25 which is published in the 2011 GA minutes.
@derekradney I suspect this is true, but I think a lot of what drives the discussion towards GA is that is much more visible and open process. As a non-elder its very hard to get insight into what is going in your local presbytery which makes that hard to discuss.
@sassiterian It actually takes from the needy twice. First by taking resources allocated for their aid, and then again by turning us suspicious towards future pleas from those in need.
@DannyMorgan0@death2theturtle I think the most likely counter argument is that it would be confusing. I do like the idea of defining this as an order, and think that should eliminate any confusion. I'm probably overly sensitive, but some seem to think most congregants can't understand any distinctions.
@ThomasERickard@johnandrewwords Sessions elect clerks (BCO 10-4) and Diaconates elect chairmen and secretaries (9-4) and yet any such elected elders/deacons possess no more authority than those who elected him.
@presbycast Certainly true. I took your statement as we excelled in the theory of the office compared to our sister denoms, but failed consistently put it into practice. Curious where we may be doing well compared to our peers.
@presbycast As PCA DE, I'd be interested in hearing expound on your first statement. There are parts of the OPC's BCO that I like better than ours on this subject, although I'd have minor quibbles with both. In terms of writing in general, I tend to prefer the Dutch Reformed.
