@azure111s@ian4downton Not just battery degradation. Newer models for the same price have larger batteries, so older models will depreciate at an accelerated rate
@ian4downton A 3 year old EV will is not an equivalent product to a new EV - each gen is cheaper for the same range, charging speed etc. so the older models necessarily depreciate faster
@foundmyfitness In the UK we apply sewage sludge onto crops for fertiliser, in this there are about ten thousand tonnes of tyre particles from road vehicles and likely many more thousands of other microplastics.
@MichaelDnes1@lfg_uk Great statistics. I would add two caveats: 1. What about per lane? It seems we have focused on expansion of lanes rather than new roads. 2. The definition of motorway is not comparable across countries as many countries would consider our dual carriageways motorways.
@lfg_uk This is not a like for like comparison, a little UK naivety - our motorway standards are different from Spains. You would also include many of our dual carriageway A roads in this map and stats for a better comparison
@pursuitofprog A little UK nativity here - much of Spain’s motorway network would be considered dual carriageway A Roads in the UK. The maps are not like for like
@TrashPanda08x I would expect a single lane car tunnel to achieve about max 5k-10k per day for the right location, so apparently comparable cost per person
@ChrisGloninger Would be good to see how this translates into changes in Total Cost of Ownership - slightly higher fuel consumption + slightly lower capital cost
@JEBistline Great study. Interesting that we still blindly assume BEVs and ICEVs will be driven equally over their lifetimes. Our new research coming soon - BEVs haven’t reached ICEVs yet. But in the longer term BEVs could exceed ICEVs, who knows what their actual lifetime will be…
@IterIntellectus Thousands of tonnes also make into agricultural soil - washed off the road into sewers -> waste water treatment -> produces sewage sludge -> gets used as a fertiliser - who knows how far along the food supply they get
@DuncanStott Is the quite right? 140,000 sounds like the average daily flow for a section of the motorway, not total trips. M25 section near Heathrow gets 200,000ish average daily flows but would be naive to say M25 only responsible for that many trips.
