Writing Tip Number 4

(Please note: These are just personal tricks I have picked up over the years while writing I find to be helpful while writing.)

Smell=Memory

When describing smells, attach them to a character’ memory . With one sentence you both add depth to a character, and give a vastly improved description.

“She smelt roses”
VS
“The roses brought her back to her mother, for the span of a moment, to all the fresh tilled gardens they’d planted beneath a Florida summer sun.”
