@TheGreatB00ks And I think there is comparison to be made between Barttleby and Achilles - both using their free will to opt out of a system that isn’t serving them. And both end up dead for it. Maybe this was addressed in your podcast, I only saw this small clip
@TheGreatB00ks I mean, there’s the effeminacy of the office workers, but to call the men of the Iliad great - the whole thing is about rage with the moments of humanity coming only in glimpses to accentuate the savages of war and political manipulations of the gods.
@residentreformr I see a point being made about the belief in the afterlife not being applied consistently in Protestant circles- the personal “Aunt” is alive in heaven but the impersonal “Saints” are all dead.
Where is the dissonance?
@FrMatthewLC We made a video/slideshow for my mom’s 70th birthday. Gathered pictures from her life and put them in a pseudo chronological order, then had personal messages (especially from the grandkids) recorded and put between groups of photos. For background, we used some of her fav songs
I’m just to the point where I’m 98% certain all this “trad life” stuff as the cure for the Church is just a fad, the way fidget spinners were a cure for ADHD.
@JesusSaves1500 If you read all of John (the whole context) you would see that “spirit” “truth” and “life” are not used to describe the use of metaphor. They are to point to a higher reality that can be hard for the “flesh” to understand.
So, yes, context is very important
@sola_chad Is there a moment in Scripture when Mary hears the word of God, accepts Jesus into her life, and keeps Him?
Is that moment somehow unique to Mary? Possibly even elevated?
@ChristandGuitar This question carries a lot of modern day assumptions, the first of which is that Bishops of the time exercised the same type of territorial authority based in the modern hierarchical system seen today. That early on, so many things were still being considered and hashed out.
@SoWhatAaaand You understand that your table of contents doesn’t have books that would have been read and “circulated as scripture” ( as worded in your AI)
@TertiusIII This argument doesn’t carry the weight you think it does. “Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence”
e.g We haven’t found proof of extraterrestrial life, there it must not exist
