@bbboatclub This volcano is the key to connecting the romantic poets with Lars Von Trier Melancholia, and WG Sebald's Rings of Saturn (which has a theme of particles in the air and melancholy). Sebald would have liked that if it wasn't too obvious.
Fantastic run through of dementia assessment by Dr Sharmi Bhattacharyya - great slide highlighting cognitive issues commonly experienced by people with mental health diagnoses #rcpsychdementia

@DrKate_Miller Eating together and taking proper breaks does wonders for mental health and thus patient safety. Probably the most important part of the NZ RMO MECA in my opinion
Can high quality nursing home care reduce avoidable ED visits among people dying with dementia?
Basically yes
Sadly something not fully recognised by @NHSEngland & @DHSCgovuk as the pandemic swept in despite funded policy to support it😖 https://t.co/YOznVhsZQ5
Loneliness doesn't only hurt mental health. It's also a risk factor for physical health.
90 studies, 2.2M people: loneliness and social isolation predict mortality from cancer and all causes, even after controlling for health conditions.
Human connection is vital to well-being.
The TRAILBLAZER-ALZ 2 study published on Donanemab for #Alzheimer’s disease was just published in JAMA. I had the honor to write the editorial along with @NathanielChinMD and @SharonBrangman. Here is a thread summarizing my thoughts. #EndAlz#AAIC23 https://t.co/Atoq5JTxKM

@DrKGregorevic I told my patient about this news release, she said it was unlikely to work in the real world. At least that's some use for the article: better than a MOCA for assessing cognition.
"Most people believe #frailty is inevitable & irreversible. This clinical trial showed that a simple, low-cost, home-based intervention can reverse frailty and significantly improve muscle strength, bone mass, activity levels and slowness in 3 months." https://t.co/6ByaKNe9kL
@InternSupp Decide that after doing what the nurse says. At least you did what the nurse said. Had a case recently, smelly urine. Unconvinced, waited for the bug to grow, waited for sensitivities, reflected that the patients WCC was up and repeated failed TROCs... eh fine. Amox.
Friendly reminder to new trainees: ignore the "that urine smells like a UTI"
It's not part of the diagnostic criteria for UTI!
Urine can smell from dehydration, food, meds, etc
The "sniff test" for UTI:
- PPV 54% for bacteriuria
- PPV 28% for pyuria
