..into selflothing and apathy. The only way to truly heal the depression you feel from abandoning yourself over a long period of time is to make bold and brave choices in the direction of your truth. Expressing yourself freely where you used to silence yourself for their benefit.
It’s inconvenient for the people who have benefited off of your supressed voice for you to speak your truth, which is why they’ll try to squash you with shame when you do. But the more you abandon your voice to keep the peace, the more you will lose yourself…
until one day there is barely any “real you” left. Then we call it depression.
Depression is actually the opposite of EXPRESSION. When we have abandoned our true self expression and voice for long enough eventually that rage we feel from this self abandonment turns inwards
The belief that you’re not acceptable just the way you are is exactly what draws people into your life who believe you’re not acceptable just as you are.
Life is a mirror of your inner world.
Where do you need to unshackle yourself?
If you don’t like yourself, it doesn’t matter where you go, you are right there.
To avoid being with yourself you need to take something to numb you so, you’ll use alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, sex, etc in order to take your mind away from yourself.
The solution is self love
Tbh for years I relied on alcohol to help me feel confident and “have more fun” socially, it lead me to some dark places.
So, when I tweet about this topic it’s not coming from a place of pride, but from a place of understanding, reflection and compassion 🙏🏼
