Freelance used to be a temporary condition between staff jobs, it's now the longterm norm. If photojournalism is going to survive, we need to fundamentally rethink our labour relationships.
Two photojournalists have been laid off from non-union Postmedia combined newsrooms—one each from The Edmonton Sun/Journal and The Calgary Sun/Herald. Typically the first workers affected by cuts, freelancers now make up the majority of working photojournalists.
@ChrisDca Part of good marketing is knowing your audience. As someone who's lived in Winnipeg 20+ years, I think they either don't know the city well, or they don't consider the majority of Winnipeggers their audience. Cheaper to get Jets, or Bombers, merch to show ome city pride.
@elishadacey IMO, this is also peak 'modern' Winnipeg, though. "We are going to have cool new things, but most of you won't be able to afford/access them." Or, "if we overprice it they will (hopefully) come." Made of what's real, but not realistic.
My first thought was Michael Moorcock's symbol for chaos from the Eternal Champions stories. Also popularized by fantasy games such as D&D and anarchist elements of the punk scene.
@bob_thrillin First of all, who said you shouldn't have a reuben for breakfast? That person is toxic.
Second, you should definitely have a reuben for breakfast. Enjoy your breakfast reuben!
@dhalmark Excellent repurpose! I never used to keep leftover fries, because they go soggy so quick. Then realized they make excellent hash browns when chopped up.
