@pourfairelevide I think the charitable take is that the tweet makes sense but you're obviously right that works don't exist in a vacuum and can't be read from an objective position!

@pourfairelevide I do think there's a grain of truth to say you can over-interpret a work through a theoretical lens, discarding a lot that you'd have gotten just trying to let the book lead. I think (but not read it yet) that Susan Sontag talks about this in "Against Interpretation"

@OedipasKvass @katherineveritt That's fair – from where I'm at I feel the hate directed at him is more harmful than the perspective he's sharing. I feel he's certainly done more good than bad in the last few years with all of his body of work.

I feel regardless of disagreeing with his opinion as an undocumented person himself who writes constantly in favor of worker rights and multiculturalism, he's not an enemy.
