@sue_wilkinson Hi Sue - I've had many lovely responses from my readers. I would say as a general rule younger readers focus on the characters and plot, with the map being helpful but incidental to their reading experiences. the older the reader the more they appreciate the map.
@sue_wilkinson One further thought. In terms of style of the fictional map I asked Finn to draw style elements from Arthur Ransom and JRR Tolkien! Very different genres, but it seems to have worked, and I was very happy with the result.
@sue_wilkinson I began with the 1:25,000 OS map plotted the key places, overlaying them with my own very rough sketch. I then used the "what three words" app to check the accuracy of some of the locations, including out on the lake. I was keen that every location in the story, while renamed..
@sue_wilkinson Hi Sue - great to hear from you. I have so enjoyed this reading and thread. Thank you for your interest in #Spylark! I wanted a map to help orientate readers because so much of the story is related to geography, and to enhance the sense of place I wanted to achieve.
