Being coachable means you're willing to consider feedback even if you don't like what you hear. It means resisting the urge to make excuses or get defensive when challenged. Getting better is more important than your ego. You'd rather get it right than be right.
First outdoor 200m this season 4/11, huge PR as well, showcasing speed. 21.7 plenty more meets to come to continue building! #jucotrack#letswork#beavers unsigned 400H sophomore
Athletes‼️‼️
Do a better job of using social media to your recruiting advantage. Too many college coaches are on social media, and you need to be seen. Head coaches and assistants are active and use these platforms to find recruits including your schedule, highlight film, and contact information. If your page isn’t updated because you barely get on, you’re missing real opportunities.
Here are some helpful tips to consider:
As a 400 hurdler, I opened my outdoor season in the 100m, shaved .3 in one year. 11.1-10.77, this is what my pure speed is looking like right now. More work to come! Working to grab an opportunity! #letswork#juco#TrackAndField#collegetrack#progression
@DillonMartinez Yes I agree, even sled marches, sled bounds can work too. Definitely encourage film work to make those angles happen and become an emphasis. The perfect angle is 45 degrees head to heel.
To no one in particular
Let me stand on something for a second and then im officially done.

Yes…I have seen the viral video
I was coaching the athlete.
We lost the race. Period.
But what that video doesn’t show….
Skylar Hudnall responded by setting a conference record in the 5k and walked down the favorite coming in in the same fashion without the theatrics. The record he set winning was an almost 90 SECOND personal best.
Skylar also ran one of the fastest miles in the history of the SWAC two weeks earlier in 4:07.89. Which is the best our program has seen maybe ever.
Skylar is an excellent, hardworking student as well. He’s a great teammate and all his teammates respect and love him no matter where they come from and what their skin color is.
This is Skylar’s SECOND HBCU he chose coming from W Virginia State.
Skylar has the support of his teammates and his coach (Me) without question. Our staff believes in him.
Skylar’s coach (Me) doesn’t have much experience with distance running and is figuring it out every day (shout out to my UW guys that have contributed). He still shows up and trusts the process.
I could care less what your color, socioeconomic background, or whatever we use to separate us is.
If you work like this young man does, treat people with respect, act like an adult, and work to graduate….I WILL COACH YOU.
I have tremendous respect for Garfield and his program. We take the L in the mile like we took the W in the 5k. With respect for all who competed.
This is a lesson for our program and the young people.
Social media is full of people with comments and no context. The vast majority of them cant do what any of these athletes do daily.
So all yall that have liked, commented, shared, and laughed….we remain unbothered. We moved on after the race and focused on the 5k.
In the words of Deion
You didn’t make us
You can’t break us
I’m proud to have him with us

Go Jags!
Every year I have my athletes write down both academic and athletic goals. That way, when they start to slack off or get lazy, I can point back to what they set for themselves. Their goals are big, but they need to understand that lofty goals require a matching work ethic
Blessed to have the opportunity to work the AAU district track meet this week in Fort Worth, Texas at Chisholm Trail HS along side with my Cousin Nicholas Scott who’s the meet director! This will look great as an upcoming sophomore into College! #StepWithAPurpose
