The highest honor as a Ugandan is to serve your country in any way, Rugby is not an everybody game and to fight for the flag with your body accords you to join the highest form of Patriotism.
Lack of humility in Society let Sydney down💔A PATRIOT❤️
@mkainerugaba@DaudiKabanda
Rest in peace, Sydney Gongodyo. Your impact on the game and those around you will live on.
Deepest condolences to the family, friends, teammates, and the entire rugby fraternity.
Behind the scenes with Sydney
These moments capture a time we were lucky enough to share with you. working, creating, and building something together.
You were part of our journey, and you will always remain part of our story. We will always celebrate you. 🕊️
On 5th June 2026, my young brother, tribesman and teammate @GongodyoSidney at @piratesrugbyUG was murdered. Not killed in an accident or lost to illness but MURDERED by a mob in a cowardly, senseless, extra-judicial attack. I am furious and deeply, deeply disappointed in my fellow Ugandans.
Let us be clear about what happened. A group of goons and hooligans took it upon themselves to end an innocent human life with complete impunity. Do NOT call it mob justice, as calling it justice is to justify it! There is NO justice in what they did. No one, absolutely NO ONE, has the power or the right to take the life of another. LIFE is SACRED. What happened to Sydney was an act of TERRORISM.
Sydney was a young man with a promising future ahead of him. He had sights on one day Captaining his mighty club and the Nation. He was also a father to a young son whom he hoped to raise but all of that was stolen from him in the most brutal and senseless way. This was not just an attack on Sydney Gongodyo the individual, it was and still is an attack on Rugby, an attack on SPORT and every single one of us in this fraternity.
To his young family, I am so sorry. The pain you carry is one no family should ever have to bear. The loss of Sydney leaves an indelible mark, a wound that words cannot heal. He did not deserve this. He deserved to live, to play, to lead and become everything he was destined to be.
I therefore call upon @Educ_SportsUg@NCSUganda1@UgandaRugby and the entire Sports fraternity of Uganda to stand up and DEMAND JUSTICE for Sydney Gongodyo. This was an illegal killing carried out with the kind of impunity this Government came into Power to END so we cannot be SILENT.
Extra-judicial killings like this one do not just take a life, they take us back as a Country to some of our darkest times in history. Every Ugandan must take this personally because a mob has no criteria, so it could have been any of us and it can still be any of us.
The murderers must be identified, paraded publicly and have their case heard in an open mobile court, the same way Justice was delivered for the innocent Children who were brutally murdered by a one Okello Christopher Onyum in Ggaba. Let such elements be an example. Let it be known across Uganda that Acts of Terror disguised as Mob Action SHALL NOT BE TOLERATED. NOT NOW, NOT EVER!
This is not only about Sydney, this is for every Ugandan who has ever suffered at the hands of a mob, every family torn apart by extra-judicial violence and every life cut short before its TIME. We owe it to all of them to make sure Sydney's death is not in vain.

No hay atajos. Madrugar es difícil, cuidar el cuerpo es difícil, estudiar es difícil, trabajar es difícil, crecer espiritualmente también. Pero es justo que mucho cueste lo que mucho vale.
Cameras rolling as sticks, insults, and stones flew. 💔
Where is help?
What a horrific way to die! And what an ugly society we have all helped create.
I pray some good eventually comes from this tragedy - only God knows in what form it will arrive, or if it will be enough to heal our country.
Rest in peace, Sydney. Your final moments were brutal and heartbreaking. May your family and friends find strength and healing.
Round up every boda guy on that Bukoto stage, round up the girls who urged on his beatings from a safe zone while recording, that old lady who couldn't summon the inner mother but throw a stone at Syd, the onlookers, and shop keepers.

Instead of taking your kids to that man i refuse to mention for mentorship, have them join Rugby, what I’ve seen is that the sport teaches them brotherhood, respect and discipline look at Sydney’s screenshot conversations with his team mates and friends 🥺
“When the madness of an entire nation disturbs a solitary mind, it is not enough to say the man is mad.” UG Boda is law. They remain untouchable because they are the cash cows for political barons who refuse to allow order in our cities. The Boda Barons have Sydney’s blood!
When Justice does not feel like Justice
Justice stops being justice when the State arrests a mob after they have already killed an innocent man, because such arrests merely punish the symptom while hiding the deeper state failure.
The failure to prevent the mob from forming, the failure to protect life, the failure to provide well equipped ambulance services, and the failure to act before violence becomes fatal.
In that context, post‑mortem arrests become administrative theatre, not true accountability, since the innocent man remains dead and the structural conditions that enabled the killing remain untouched and the family will continue grieving and missing Sydney irrespective of what happens to the mob. Just the tragedy the toddlers massacred in Gaba.
Rest in Heavenly Peace Sydney. I did not know you but my nephew's sadness told me all I needed to know.
Pirates don’t say goodbye, Syd. We call it “see you at the next port.” The sea’s rough without you. My chest is split, anchor-heavy with pain, but I’ll hold the line with the crew. No tears, just knots to untie later. I miss you every watch, joke, and storm.
