@clamatoes My point wasn’t about its value. More about the nature of it. I think a lot of Shakespeare is “slop” in one sense, but it’s still about as high art as it gets. Tho it’s not art for arts sake alone, it’s a commercial product, thus the qualifier.
I'm kinda racist and when I saw the movie not a single racist thought entered my head. In fact I empathized with the guy a lot. With his angst and failed dreams and partially justified anger. I felt a tremendous sense of pity for him, and the psychiatrist lady too, who felt defeated and useless by the end.
Backrooms is racist film. It’s technically brilliant, but racist. And it’s a shame during a time where Black studies is being eliminated on college campuses because I fear people are overlooking the obvious tropes and racist callbacks the film ridiculously displays.
During that whole era I had a black coworker who was really smart but really into weird black mystical horseshit. I respected him enough that when we got to talking about the topic, I gave him the honest layout of each of those big cases. All the holes and the real versions, which we all know and won't rehash here.
He would get so worked up he had to take little breaks when he talked to me. He thanked me for being honest but it felt like he wanted to kick my ass too. It was the most honest I've even been with a black person IRL. Like I said, he was a smart guy and I really respected him. But by being black it was like he signed this subscription service where you have to believe these things here and have these opinions there. No flexibility.
@kojimaicmatters Nobody changes their mind about 4 bottles of water. He got caught, left the water, then pulled his gun out at the owner's son when he was followed out. That's when the chase began.
