@Strickomaster I saw someone say previously "Schools are adequately funded to do their job, they are not adequately funded to do everything they are currently expected to do". I hadn't thought of it like that before, and of course it's a simplification, but I'm inclined to agree.
@AndyPMaths@Sheena2907@1stclassmaths Hi Andrew, for the "Use of nCr" bit you have "No" under Edexcel. By this do you mean having to use the formula as opposed to just using a calculator? I thought I'd seen it used in a "show that" question at some point? I might be misremembering.
@Sheena2907@1stclassmaths Thanks so much for this Sheena. It's definitely missing that parametric integration is NOT on MEI OCR but this is unbelievably helpful. If anyone has anything else to add I'll compile an enhanced version.
@KerryDunton@mathsjem@sxpmaths @Whitehughes @blatherwick_sam@BerwickMaths @jemmaths @DrFrostMaths@ECR_Maths Yeah I know this was "supposed" to be the case, but it's definitely not. Moments, LDS, parametric integration, "n" or "n-1" in standard deviation formula are some that I know are not consistent across exam boards. Hopefully Sheena's list is definitive!
@mathsjem Oh Mathpix is pretty damn good. I gave it some old 1980s Edexcel paper and while it wasn't perfect, it did an amazing job of converting just about everything. It then took only a few minutes to fix the things I wanted to change - far quicker than doing it from scratch!
@neilorpen@branwenjeffreys As has been pointed out to you, teachers do not get 13 weeks paid holiday a year. Debate the pros/cons of when/where holiday is and how it is taken across professions if you wish, do not post false information.
@Jo__Leighton @Strickomaster Also speaking as someone who has timetabled in secondary schools, my experience is that you can make almost anything work. The challenge is working out what compromises may need to happen along the way. It won't be perfect, however an open mind to possibilities doesn't hurt.
@Ridermeister So if we need calculus to prove either the area or circumference, why are we allowing circles to be questioned at all at GCSE since it's a result we can't prove using mathematics we expect them to know? Not antagonising - it bugs me that I have to "hand wave" a bit with circles!
@Ridermeister While this isn't a defence of their reply, I'm curious how you prove the area and/or circumference of a circle to Year 8 pupils. Most arguments I've seen "approximate" the area with a parallelogram with a proof that can't be rigorous at this stage.
@ProfSmudge@MrSMaths11 What an odd comment to make to someone who's sharing a resource they made for free. It's good for interpreting answers in context - some of these quadratics yield 2 solutions, 1 of which doesn't work. Forming equations tends to be a weaker aspect for pupils than just solving them
@ECR_Maths Oh I remember that question! Used that exercise in my NQT year because I had run out of time for planning and just went with the recommended textbook exercise... surprisingly the class were fine after they got their initial laugh out the way!
