Jim Erdman worked for the State Department and as a senior operations officer for the CIA. In early 2025 he received a "joint duty assignment" to work under former Director of National Intelligence (DNI) Tulsi Gabbard. For the next year, Erdman led investigations by Gabbard's "Director's Initiatives Group" (DIG) into the origins of COVID-19 and anomalous health incidents (AHI) or Havana Syndrome (the latter topic often being linked to Directed Energy Weapons, DEW). Erdman also directed an investigation into UAP. None of these DIG reports have been released publicly.

Since May 2026, Erdman has emerged as a sharp public critic of the CIA on several issues, especially the origins of COVID-19 and the nature of AHI. I am posting here about 11 minutes from a 40-minute video posted on YouTube on July 26, 2026, by ace investigative journalist Catherine Herridge (follow her), in which Erdman discussed his group's findings on DEW and UAP. This clip alone should suffice to establish that Erdman is a far cry from a knee-jerk apologist for the CIA. These excerpts are presented under Fair Use (17 U.S. Code § 107) for noncommercial purposes of facilitating education, commentary, research and debate. I have no independent knowledge with which to evaluate any of the specific allegations or opinions Erdman expressed here, although I am in general agreement with the tenor of his cautionary remarks on alien-tech reverse-engineering claims. I do hope that the newly confirmed incoming DNI, Jay Clayton, and/or the Principal Deputy Director of National Intelligence (PDDNI), Aaron Lukas, will make public the DIG's findings on UAP (even though Erdman clearly conveys that the DIG UAP investigation was incomplete), and the other reports as well.

Erdman retired from the government on June 30, 2026. He is co-founder and director of development for Feds For Freedom, a nonprofit organization.

Replies with questions or comments are welcome if they deal directly with the substance of Erdman's comments regarding ANI/DEW and UAP, his qualifications, etc. Discussion of other UAP-related matters or personalities does not belong in this thread; those who egregiously violate this advisory may be blocked.

I keep getting asked so here’s what I think about @UAPGERB and @LueElizondo

This is not a binary. Goethe said theory is gray and the tree of life is green; I do not think anyone’s agenda is straightforwardly Good or Evil. I’ve hung out with Lue 3 or 4 times, met his wife and daughter, talked about our animals, had candid discussions about our careers. I’ve interviewed him in disclosure, drank in Anna’s kitchen, spoke on various subjects. And I find him exceedingly genuine, conscientious and thoughtful. I don’t think his motives or actions have ever been evil. I think he’s a devoted patriot and a consummate professional. I do believe the binary secrecy of NHI on Earth would end under his watch.

Of course I know @UAPGERB very well, too. We interviewed Davis together, we watched Vetted over brewskis in the pool, I have loaned him my toothpaste. He’s as incisively intelligent as he is respectful, and a dedicated man of integrity. I think that comes through in his content; much moreso when meeting him. I think he’s one of the most honorable and considerate people I’ve ever met. A person’s truest measure is often found in the devotion they inspire. To be surrounded by the intelligent, capable, and fiercely loyal friends that Gerb has; is itself a testament to his character.

I don’t think Gerb said this for clicks, I don’t think he’s careless enough to be used, I know he’s not a bad actor, and I know him to be an exceptionally careful researcher.

I think Lue’s video response was a tactical miscalculation in its tone and intensity. Gerb is well liked, well respected, well connected and has a bright future. Saying: you are what’s wrong with ufology! you should be ashamed! there will be a price to pay! I wouldn’t want to be you right now! etc. Unfortunately, the rhetoric risked reinforcing criticisms of Lue that have already been made by others. These parallels are drawn by bad faith actors who wish to smear both Lue and Gerb.

He could have denied the allegations by arguing that Gerb had received bad information, that he had been misled, or that others had used him to advance their own ends. Instead, the response became deeply personal. In my view, that rhetoric was disproportionate to both the man being addressed and the circumstances at hand. There are occasions when unusually harsh language is warranted; this was not one of them. Public audiences often grant far greater rhetorical latitude when the subject has established a reputation for bad faith. I do not believe Gerb occupies that category.

Anyone can nurse a grievance. The real measure of a man is not found in willingness to wage war, but in whether they possess the wisdom and strength to bring it to an end.

It is time for @LueElizondo, @rosscoulthart, @UAPGERB and possible others (@RepEricBurlison) to meet and privately, or publicly, address their differences, plan out a path forward and unite to throw off the yoke of this secrecy. Ending a feud requires much more courage than starting one.

If disclosure is truly the cause to which we are all pledged, then we must unite to secure so dearly fought an objective. The truth asks no allegiance to personalities, only fidelity to facts. History has seldom been advanced by those who allowed common purpose to be consumed by personal division: and this cause will demand all our gifts.

What a profound waste it would be to expend so rich a collection of human talent on internal strife. Let us instead unite our strength against corruption and secrecy, and toward the common pursuit of a truth we all believe deserving of the last full measure of our devotion.

A few heartfelt words from an ordinary citizen in a small but very beautiful country on the other side of the pond.

Citizens of other countries are also affected by the UFO phenomenon and want to understand what we are seeing in our skies.

The digitization of historical material is extremely important. Open and transparent access to that digitized material is equally important. China understood the importance of preserving cultural and scientific heritage and, apparently, began a project two years ago to digitize every astronomical photographic plate archive it could access. It quickly completed the digitization of plates from observatories within China and is now reaching out to photographic plate archives in many smaller countries. At least some of this digitized material is publicly available for download. The rest I don't know.

We now know that these plates contain information about events that were far easier to observe in the historical sky than they are today. By combining China’s own digitized astronomical material with plates from the many observatories it has now helped digitize, including data that are still not publicly accessible, China has everything it needs to control Disclosure on its own terms. It can happen any moment.

You can do this too. Instead of placing digitized material behind proprietary commercial subscriptions, make everything you digitize publicly available. In addition, there is no need for closed AARO meetings with civilian scientists or for confidential contracts. If you wish to fund civilian scientists studying the UFO phenomenon, my suggestion is to do so through public calls, with clearly defined criteria and conditions, and to list all civilian scientists and groups who receives funding on your website. I have noticed that many civilian scientists in our community are vulnerable to stigma and the disapproval of their colleagues. They want nothing more than to have their work acknowledged by you so that they can defend its legitimacy within the scientific community. However, without transparency, this can easily become problematic.

Let us take one small step toward transparency. That way, no one needs to worry about conspiracy theories spreading. What we need is transparency and openness.

You can do this for humanity -- for people all over the planet. Make every archive you digitize publicly available through your website.

Having Congressional observers is important to getting this right and ensuring that constitutional oversight is restored. In fact, I advocated for this exact policy in my latest article (link below).

I trust Rep. Burlison, but he is one man up against a criminal conspiracy operating within the highest levels of our government, military, and intelligence community.

For the people with real skin in the game, we can’t afford to “be polite” and give organizations with proven track records of deception and malice second, third, or fourth chances.

Especially when they have taken no steps to correct past misdeeds.
