I’ve decided to resign from @UKLabour and serve as an Independent Mayor.
People are tired of being controlled by Westminster and Party HQs. They want someone to stand up for them. Let the people decide. £25k by end of Aug & I’ll stand as North East Mayor👉https://t.co/WuDEGd3xxJ

Our community desperately needs decent and affordable social housing for those struggling to get by.
That's why I'm calling on the Planning Committee to take a tough stance with developers who try to sidestep affordable housing obligations 👇

Thank you @portsmouthnews for covering the launch of our campaign in today's paper.
Looking forward to spending the next 5 weeks speaking to Charles Dickens ward voters about my track record of action for our area & plans for the future - see you on the campaign trail!
Lots of doorstep conversations with residents in Landport today including at Windsor House where we've been supporting tenants for the past 18 months to improve the unacceptable living conditions in the block - #ReElectCal#HousingCrisis#HousingCampaigner#TenantsRights
I will be standing for re-election in May as an Independent candidate for Charles Dickens ward (covering Portsea, Landport, Buckland and Somerstown) 📺👇
Thank you to @portsmouthnews for publishing my letter encouraging readers to join and get active in their trade unions.
Thanks also to local resident Terry for his kind words about the work Councillor Kirsty Mellor and I have been doing to support the community!
Our high streets are failing.
One solution is to empower communities to take back control over these spaces.
Looking forward to being involved in this local event on that topic next month - come along and find out more!

Campaign win on heating charges for council tenants!
At today's housing budget meeting I represented the concerns of Charles Dickens ward residents about the proposed increase of 100% to their energy charges in blocks where the council provides the heating and hot water.
I have written to the Cabinet Member for Housing to put forward an alternative Housing Revenue Account budget.
We are asking for:
1. A freeze on council rents
2. A financial hardship fund for council tenants
3. A reduction in the proposed energy charges

@CalCorkery One of the most dedicated Labour Councillor I have ever seen, totally baffled how this has been allowed to happen. We have lost a star for the Labour Party if the party does not review this decision.
@CalCorkery Your endless hard work in the ward you represent has been very much appreciated. This decision will leave a hole in the ward that will be hard to fill. This is a sad day for the ward and local Labour Party.
Unfortunately I have been blocked by the Labour Party from restanding as a councillor this May. Being a local councillor for the area I live in has been the greatest privilege of my life and I'm proud of what we've achieved. I look forward to continuing my activism ✊
Today's devastating Supreme Court decision is a massive setback for women's rights in the United States of America.
The right of women to make their own decisions about their own bodies is a fundamental human right.
What could possible cause the Leader of the Council to "not be able to sleep at night"?!
Cost of living? Homelessness? Social care? Climate change?
Or not getting his way with a couple of Committee Chairs🙄
Interesting insight into GVJs priorities.

Dartford Tories laughing at the opening of local foodbanks reminds us how out of touch they are with the challenges communities face and a lack of a plan to tackle the cost of living. Pleasure to join @Dartford_Labour tonight to hear their ambitions for the next Labour Government
